My Love for the UZI

Since the late 1950s the UZI has served many very well. Its a weapon more compact then a rifle yet has a 100 yard range and can fire short bursts with near zero muzzle climb. Anyone within ten minutes can accurately fire short bursts into a pie plate 100 yards away. Designed for the battlefield it is more rugged then the AR15 variants.

Many Americans look at the UZI as a joke but there is a reason why over 10 million copies have been produced and used in over a hundred different countries...its because it simply works.

When I am overseas on contract my primary weapon is the uzi. I could choose an AR or an AK series rifle but why bother? The AR is not all that reliable. The US Marines have creative acronyms to describe the AR such as fubar. The AK is heavy...bulky and bad for cqb. The 9mm round is especially deadly when fired in a 4-5 round burst. A burst from the uzi will certainly stop any man in his tracks as well or better than any rifle. Try taking a 4 round burst to the chest. Even if you are wearing body armor no way you are left standing with 4 +p+ rounds hitting you.

The uzi will eat any 9mm unlike the venerable MP5. You can put +P+ in the UZI unlike the mp5. You can also change barrels to any pistol caliber you like. 32, 40, 50, 100 round mags...your choice. For contract work I go with the 40 round variety.

Fixed it for you.

Even with +P+ ammo and/or a buffer to speed up the ROF and smooth out FA fire a bit, the bolt moving forward on the first shot is enough to throw off most peoples aim at 100 yards. It takes people used to a closed bolt gun a while to get used to that lurch on the first shot. In my experience anyway.

That said, I like a Uzi more than a MP5. The one bad thing I can say about Uzis is they are so dang heavy.
 
well, i have a s/a 45 uzi with grease gun lower (soon to be an sbr) and one thing i can say about it--you pull the trigger and it goes bang just like it is supposed to--and it does it with anything i feed it! :D
 
The UZI has been and will always be a good solid 9mm SMG. Simple to disassemble; simple to swap out barrels, durable and reliable. The UZI hits that sweet spot of - more refined than a grease gun and cheaper to make than a Tommy Gun.

Open-Bolt lurch, a lock time similar to a flintlock, being shot at 100 yard pie-plates.... good luck.

Tommy is no better, none of the open bolt guns are 100 yard guns "by preference". As Jeff Cooper noted, they are generally perfectly suited for defending the interior of a phone booth.

I got to fire an Uzi and MP-5, among other assorted assualt rifles, at OSUT.

The Uzi was the only gun that was actually fun to shoot, I would have traded range time on everything else just to fire it some more.
 
My Uzi will put one round on a pie plate at ten yards, and the rest will go elsewhere. It's fun, but accuracy is not it's forte.
