My Little Review Of My New Remington RM380.

TRUE LIBERTY

Inactive
My new Remington got shipped in on Thursday and first thing in the morning I took it to the range to break it in.

So lets see what it comes with first before I go over just how pleased I am with this new pistol.

Comes with two extra magazines, one is flush mount and the other has a pinkie extension. Both hold 6 rounds.

Pistol with pinkie extension magazine.

And with just a flush magazine.

This stupid safety lock required by law which just increases the price.

Out of the box I found the fit of the gun excellent! And finish seemed very plain but done very well.

I did not disassemble and clean before shooting. Just put some oil between the slide and frame and that was it.

Shooting the small gun had a very little kick and reminded me of my fathers SIG P238 which has very little recoil.

Was not shooting for accuracy that day but with little effort it hit the target and seemed very accurate.

The double action trigger pull is very long and reminds me of my LCR which has a excellent trigger pull. RM380 is probably just as good. But will need to take both the range again to compare more throughly.

So out of the 200 rounds shot I had the slide not fully come forward in place so I could shoot another round. This was at around 150 rounds and I think this was because of a limp wrist and I was getting a little wrist tired. Otherwise perfect!

I really liked the placement of the ambi magazine release which is easy to get to and does not get in the way for accidental release when shooting. I like shooting with both hands so this feature was important one when I was making my decision for a new pocket pistol.

Getting it home to clean it you can see just how dirty it got.

Disassembly is extremely easy and simple.

Cleaning of the pistol is also very easy. Almost as easy cleaning a revolver time wise.

This new pistol from Remington is a big winner. All medal frame and slide. Made in America and based off of a proven design. This will be for my personal protection for some time in the future.

Looks like a superb gun. I wouldn't expect anything less from Remington. They make some of the nicest new guns I've seen.

Glad you like it but I just don't see the appeal of this, especially for personal protection as you say you plan to use it.

I'm not a .380 hater (I've carried that round before) but it's almost universally agreed upon that it's not the optimal round for protection. And even if you decided to go with a .380 based on some size and weight constraints, there are more "proven" models to choose from besides this.

It's based on a Rorbaugh which is a gun I would not consider "proven" to begin with. Even if it was, a Rorbaugh this is not. Remington has had some pretty horrible quality control lately.

With those things in mind, again I just don't see the appeal.

Nice review. Might not be my choice, but I can see the appeal. Low recoil DAO pocket pistol. Reliability is only as good as the the one *you* have so if this proves reliable, why not?

I just have one question for you. Who is John Galt? ;)

They are a nice well made pistol. My brother and I have put a lot of rounds through his. It has never bobbled, conceals well and is much more accurate than it needs to be. I have one on order for a backup to my EDC.

I haven't shot one, but I have given it a pretty good look and was impressed with what I saw. It felt really good in hand, too. If I hadn't found a nice deal on an LCP Custom, I probably would have ended up with an RM380.

I would have to disagree with all points you made but thank you for looking at my review.

rm380 my take

I have put 200 rounds through my rm380 and so far I am happy. It feels great in my hand and has low recoil. Took about 50 rounds to get used to the long trigger pull. Easy to rack the slide and the magazines are easy to load the 6 rounds. My beef is the lock down pin in reassembly. Getting it out is easy by just aligning the holes and the pin drops out when you turn the gun sideways. Getting it back in is a huge chore. Aligning the holes exactly while keeping from touching the barrel and preventing it from covering the hole is tough. Today after failure to get the pin back through the holes, I asked my wife to drop it in while I lined up the opening. It dropped in correctly. So I guess it is a two person job, not ideal.

I have a RM 380 and so far it seems to perform as expected with close to 200 rds down the tube it has not had a failure of any kind and is reasonably accurate if close in. The finish is somewhat of a mystery bein a flat black and kind of ugly i will need to see how it holds up, recoil is easily manageable with standard ball ammo. This pistol is good for dropping in a pocket something i am hesitant to do with my P238, P938 or Kimber Micro.

Nice review and great photos!! Thank-you! :) TFL seems to have no shortage of folks telling the rest of us that the .380 round is worthless. My .380's are tiny and thus they wind up getting carried around quite a bit. I just picked up a CW380, and after some initial misgivings, I think it's going to be a great addition.
