My inheritance: First Colt

My long lost uncle (literally, I never did meet him) passed away about 8 years ago and the family finally split up his firearms. I was blessed with the opportunity to chose from some fine firearms and ended up with 3. The first one is a mint Colt New Frontier Buntline with .22 LR and .22 mag cylinders. The second is a LNIB Virginian Dragoon in .45. Both guns look like they just came off the shelf and are in absolutely phenomenal condition. The third gun is an old Stevens 311 double barrel 16 ga, that I have fond memories of blasting pigeons with as a child at my other uncle's farm. I had to pass on a 1964 Winchester 94, but my parents have it and I know I'll get to shoot it on occasion. All of the really collectable ones, several Colt SAA and 1911s stayed with his brother, but I am very happy and honored to have these heirlooms and will be able to pass them onto my children someday.

The first SA revolver labeled "Virginian" imported by Interarms were made by Hammerli in Switzerland and were a Colt SAA clone. When they decided to manufacture hand guns in the USA they introduced a slightly larger frame model with either fixed or adjustable sights labeled "The Virginian Dragoon."
The "Swisssafe" on mine consists of an extra long cylinder pin that can be pushed back to keep the hammer off the firing pin. In addition one chamber has 2 dimples on either side to use as a "safe" chamber.
Anyhow, too bad you never met your uncle but you have something nice to remember him by.

Yes, this one does have the SWISSAFE system, I didn't know about the dimpled cylinder though, I'll have to look for that.
One question though, since the frame was built to handle the 44 mag, can this thing handle 45+p?

Sounds like a question for Jim March.
