My idea for the ultimate revolver

1. It would be in 45 acp.
2. fixed sights only.
3. Nine shot capacity.
4. Use full moon clips for reloading.
5. Break top.
6. Double-action.
7. Stainless steel frame
8. Grip would be angled like a 1911A1, custom Hogue grips(finger groove variant) standard.
9. 5 inch barrel, one inch of which would be a muzzle brake based upon the DSA FAL rifle's own muzzle break.
Essentially, it would be a modernized Webley.

9 rounds of .45? It would look like a miniature Thompson drum design, but the cylinder on it would provide a good shield if anybody was shooting at you.... :D

If you want 9 rounds, maybe you should discover the wonderful world of autoloaders.

'Course if you've got the money, somebody will make it for you....

Ultimate

Somewhat along those lines as I recall before they folded didn't Detonics exhibit a 7 shot top break .44 mag revolver?

Tom

5 shot K frame sized Ti/Aluminum with the gray/black "PD" styling, bobbed hammer .45ACP/.40S&W. Picture a M12 Ti PD with HiViz frontsight.

You Might Consider.....

A 1917 S&W revolver and fiddle with the grips. Only six rounds, and the reload is different, but a big, fixed sighted revolver.

Or heck, there's still some Webleys around. Build yourself a set of grips you like.

I'll go you one better than that...

Start with a standard Redhawk, with the following modifications-

1) fixed sight frame contour like the old Speed/Service Six

2) Standard barrel contour (4 or 5 inch), milled to accept standard replacement sights but w/o the factory 'ramp'

3) black-powder 'chamfer' on front of cylinder

4) slightly rounded butt of grip, with Uncle Mike's grips

5) available in .460 Rowland, .45 Colt & .44 Mag

6) Fobus holster availability, please

I will probably have 1 thru 5 in the works shortly after deer season ends this winter; #6 however, is more than can be hoped for at present. I can't even get them to make one for my little SP-101!

i can't stop;
the moon clips would make great throwing stars when empty.-:)
the holster would look like a football cut in half.-:)
the speed load holders could accomidate a big gulp.-:) or a doughnut.
i'm sorry,it's late. otherwise cool.

I like everything but the .45 ACP. If I want .45 ACP, I'll buy a Springfield Armory 1911.

I'd go with either .41 Mag or .44 Mag, and lower the capacity of it some.

Maybe change it to Titanium frame instead?

Rich

Lemat made a 9-shot revolver that worked quite well in the Civil
War. Webley made eight shot, double action breaktops from 1887 to 1947 that used speed loaders. With full moon clips,
this weapon would as fast as an autoloader but be easier to maintain.
The titanium frame idea was great!
The reason for the 9shot capacity? AS a youth growing up in the
crime-infested hollows of WV, I heard the oft-repeated outlaw
advice: "Count their shots to six and then rush them." Several people were killed in that manner.
The revolver just needs updated, is all.

that's be a mighty big cylinder

just figuring off the top of my head -

9 * .46 + .1 for metal around the chambers = 5.04

divided by pi for diameter of cylinder @ centerline of primers = 1.6051

plus .46 (from the center of primer to outside edge of cylinder) +.2 (for metal on outside of each chamber @ .1/side)
= 2.2651

A 2 1/4 by 1 1/4 in cylinder would be kinda heavy even in aluminum

"COUNT THEIR SHOTS TO SIX THES RUSH THEM"

makes a good argument for either a new york reload(for those who don't know this is a second revolver) or a colt 1911 - perhaps with a wilson "burocrat" 10 round magazine<vbg>

I dunno - - -.45 ACP belly gun idea has merit.

Some 25 or 30 years back, "Guns" magazine used to have a monthly feature on new firearm product ideas. One I particularly recall was an "American Bull Dog," an updated version of the old British big-bore snubbies.

This one was in .45 ACP, five-shot, VERY slicked-off with round butt and few if any projections. Can't recall is concealed hammer or exposed, spurless with cocking serrations on top.

I really like the idea of something like this with alloy frame and stainless steel other parts, and a 2-1/2 inch barrel. It would come out a bit larger than a Colt Detective Special, I guess--Perhaps about the size of a Ruger Speed Six but considerably lighter.

What a pocket revolver, using modern .45 ACP loads with SWC bullets!

Best,
Johnny

chater arms reworking the "Bulldog .44" to 45 Acp/Auto rim

Hello,
If Charter Arms would rework the .44 Bulldog to.45 ACP/Auto Rim, ther would be a decent revolver.
Advantage: shorter length cylinder , allowing barrel to extend back thru frame, just approaching 4" OAL.
That would give decent ballistic.

ultimate revolver?

For small size revolver- we have it S&W .357 J frame For extra power S&W 44 mag 2.5 inch 6 shot revolver N Frame we have it
Herb

J frame size but different layout.
Underbarrel ala Mateba.
9 shot .45 cylinder protrudes above the frame except for the recoil plate/rear sight.
Front sight on a tower ala M-16.

Might not be real practical for CCW but at least it would be ugly.
