"My Husband Blew $250K on Guns"

I keep telling my wife that I'm investing in our retirement, but I'm pretty sure that she sees right through that ruse. She knows that my motto is "guns are for keeping, not selling."

I guess it's one of those little harmless fictions that keeps everyone happy.

Thus, she makes sure that the ol' 401k gets appropriately funded.

I might claim my guns are an investment except for the fact an investment is something you plan to sell some day ... that's just not going to happen (and my wife knows that). Lucky for me that although my wife doesn't shoot, she doesn't mind my hobby and actually supports me and my sons. Lucky eh? :D (of course, I do keep my gun budget moderate).

my father bought many of his guns for less than $100.00 and now most of them are worth between $500.00-2grand cause he usually keeps most of them new in box.

Now I don't think that is the way to build a retirement. But I do think that guns are not a bad part of a larger retirement.
