Thanks! I feel weirdly proud, even though I had nothing to do with this rifle's creation. I think she's a model 600 and came out of the factory in 1967, based on the Remington date stamp posts on this site, but Remington's website says that the model 600 wasn't offered in .243 Winchester, until the Model Mohawk variants in 1972, so I'm not sure what to think.
 
Beautiful work. If it has the original barrel and is 18 1/2" with vent rib, it was the original 600 built 64-68. If it does not have the vent rib it is the 600 Mohawk built 71-80. Both were chambered in .243. That is per Fjestad's Blue Book of Gun Values.
I had the Mohawk in .308. It was my first CF rifle. They were nice but don't let the bolt handle bite you.
 
Meaning the trigger safety recall, or just gettin' pinched? The Woodsmaster 742 in .30-06 I traded in for this gun tore my finger open on multiple occasions. We never did get along that well. :D Caused me to miss my first buck! And a bloody knuckle from chambering a round.

This little carbine does have the vent rib, so it probably is a model 600 and not an early Mohawk variant. It's weird though that Remington's website says they weren't chambered in .243 Winchester. Guess they don't have their stinkin' poop together these days.

I meant getting pinched. That thing will draw blood if you aren't careful. Trust me, I learned the hard way.
 
Model 600 rifles were chambered in .222 Rem .223 Rem(very rare), .243Win, 6mm Rem, .308 Win, and a small number of .35 Rem (so I have heard). The model 660 Magnum was chambered in 6.5mm Rem Mag, and .350 Rem Mag.

There are several stock configurations possible, and a couple of different rear sights, and the rib/non ribbed barrels.

I have a .222 with the laminate 660 model stock. I have a Mohawk in .243, and a model 600 in 6mm, and .308 as well as the magnum in .350, which is a late one without the vent rib or laminated stock.

Even though the website doesn't say they made them, I think its quite possible to have a model 600, vent rib and all in .243 Win.

I'll be talking to Remington about that well-documented trigger safety recall, as my brother-in-law accidentally dry-fired the rifle this morning, while the safety was engaged.
He claims he didn't even touch the trigger.
Eeeek!
Oh well, I guess nothing could look that good and be truly flawless.
I still got one hell of a deal as far as I'm concerned.
Remington's website says they will fix it for free, or for $20, depending on a number of factors. The cost of shipping and handling is all mine to pay.
Does anyone have any experience with this process?
How long does it usually take, and how much does it cost to ship a rifle?
I'm anxious to shoot this baby, but I don't want to be sending any rounds downrange without meaning to.
Would it be cheaper and/or faster just to have a local gunsmith fix it?
 
interesting...very interesting. I dont know what to think about it. it's got a goofy bolt lever and it's got thumbhole mannlicher stock...two words that do not go together but it actually works quite well. I love quilted maple as decorative wood but it's something that I associate more with guitar bodies than gun stocks. it is a lovely gun but it's something that I probably could never bring myself to shoot...ever.
 
Actually, my Marlin 785 trigger was so heavy that Remington was gonna adjust it free under warranty. Sent it to the authorized center they recommended where it would take a few weeks vs. Ilion, NY, site where they said it would be at least a couple of months. THEN, they said it was 6.9 lb. pull and the warranty was only good up to 7 lbs. so I had to pay $60 to get my G****n trigger back on a $104 gun!!!

You may be able to just ship trigger only and be held hostage too if you are lucky.
 
Welcome, and congrats on a nice looking rifle. I know how you feel about her, I'll be posting some pics of my new brunette when she comes in.:D
