My gun is too pretty to shoot!

I just need to know i am not the only person like this. i have lots of guns. but my fav. ones tend not to be the ones i shoot a lot. i am always worried i am going to scratch or scuff them. its not like my guns are old collectables or anything. i just like the ones i like. i love my beretta 92's i have 3. i had to buy 3 so i had one to shoot. lol i have 2 stanless ones that i keep in my safe. they are some of my fav. guns. but i almost never take them out to shoot. i had to buy a beat up blued one. just so i could shoot the 92.

i try to justify this by claiming they are investments and i dont want to ruin them. on the other hand, guns are tools. and why have them if you dont use them right?

i am sure this is some sort of mental problem. but it would be comforting to know i am not the only one.

Beretta 92FS are not rare guns. They are incredibly reliable and desperately pretty, but definitely not investment material. Most guns are a pretty poor investment tool. Sure, if you hang on to them long enough you can sell them for more than what you paid, but when you factor in inflation, you would be better off investing your money somewhere else.

I have a Beretta 85FS (basically a baby 92FS chambered in .380 ACP) as my CCW. It may be beautiful, but it is a tool that I carry with me in order to defend myself if the need ever arises. I know it will eventually loose it's finish and get scratches, but that's ok. As long as it functions 100%, I am satisfied.

Shoot your Berettas. Guns are not as much fun when they are used only as safe queens. That's like buying a Model T ford only to keep it in your garage and never use it, or buying a wristwatch only to leave it in the safe, and using your cell phone to tell time instead. In other words, POINTLESS!!!:D

If others here can fire their Colt Model 1903 and carry them as CCWs, you can surely fire those Beretta pistols and enjoy them.

I am exactly the same. I own 3 examples of all my favourite guns. One for general use, one safe queen and one for competition.

I'll stand up and admit it - yes, I have some guns too pretty to shoot. I have shooters and collectors. Sometimes I'll buy a gun for carry or shooting; other times I buy it with little or no intention of shooting it.

I don't have to shoot every gun I touch.!:D

It's Your Deal

It's your deal! If you want to put them in the safe just to look at why not. People collect all sorts of things just because they are "pretty". I have some I very rarely shoot, but thats because I have other favorites to shoot. I don't have any collectibles. I do have a couple that I think of as pretty. It is your hobby, do as you wish. I have some knives I don't use, because I just look at them.

I resolved this possible dilemma by shooting only 1 gun a month and rotating my 5 guns at that rate. It has allowed me to become a better shooter with each gun than when I would grab whatever I wanted out of the safe. At the end of a month, I clean the gun that I have been shooting and get out another one for the new month. I also cycle my cases for reloading at the same time. This way I always have 1 gun dirty (shooting gun of the month), 4 clean guns in the safe with 1 always set up for SD - HD use.

Yep-I use to be like that, but now in my older years
I shoot 'em like I stole em'.....After all, that's what
they're designed for-Have fun & shoot em' up !

SHOOT IT :) think how much more enjoyment you will have.

ITS LIKE HAVING A SUPER MODEL GIRLFRIEND BUT YOU CAN NEVER SPEND ANY TIME TOGETHER:eek:

Yeah, I don't get the concept of owning guns you don't shoot.

But then, I guess I'm not a fan of guns for the sake of guns. I'm a fan of the things that guns make possible. So, to me, they're a tool of the trade and nothing more. If they don't perform, they don't have a purpose.

I used that line for 3 years to not shoot my 300 Wby. Then I broke down and put 3 rounds through it to see if the test target they sent me was realistic. It was and I was hooked. Now I have a lot of 300 Wby brass to reload. :D

If I can't shoot it I don't want it, call me a heathen but I don't care how pretty it is, if it doesn't shoot it's only a paperweight.

If I like a gun i'll buy more than one of that same gun, but it's for the purpose of having a spare. They're all rotated through shooting and carrying.

No safe queens exist and none fit the category of collector's items. If a gun gets too pretty or unreliable to shoot it gets gotten rid of for a more useful one.

Only my Wife fits and, as a matter of fact, exceeds the category of being really 'purty' and even she works.

I have an early '90s Gold Cup that I don't shoot any more. Pretty much a safe queen. More so because I have so many other guns that I shoot regularly and very little time these days, and not because I don't want to shoot it.

A gun that's too pretty to shoot, is like a woman who's too pretty to... um... er.... take out white-watering.

I've never seen the utility of either, but to each their own.

I understand where you're coming from. I love to keep my stuff looking good...er, "pretty" ;) But, I don't usually buy 2 or 3 of one specimen in order to do it. I do have a couple of the same gun in some cases, but in different calibers...like my .40 and .45 Firestars. I work hard to keep the guns that I shoot looking like new. I wear a batting glove when I shoot to keep the perspiration off the backstrap and grip frames. I don't keep my guns in holsters. I transport them to the range in pistol rugs, and I don't pick them up unless I'm wearing the batting glove.

Call me silly, but this has worked for me. I don't have a gun in my safe that I haven't shot, but I do have guns in my safe that are 35 years old, and still look like they just came out of the wrapper. That makes me happy.

I have a number of guns I'm very fond of ...and any kind of a "stupid" scratch on them really aggravates me ...like if I set it down on a spent case and were to scratch it, etc...

but honestly, regarless of what I've paid for them ...I shoot them anyway.

I have a lot of "collector" quality guns ...like old S&W revolvers, that were new in box, when I picked them up, ....but I've fired all of those as well. All of my high end 1911's ( especially from Wilson Combat ) ..I fire all of them on a regular basis ....can't bring myself to leave them home too often.

But they're your guns ...you should do what you want !

You know, it was actually a relief to me when I got my first (self-inflicted) ding on my Avalanche. I had pulled the frame-hitch mounted bike rack, and forgotten the socket wrench on the rear bumper, when I lowered my tailgate. Ouch!! But since then, if I take the truck off-road, I don't worry so much about scratching the clear-coat.

Kind of like in wrestling, sparring, or other contact sports, I always relax more after taking a hit.

So call me twisted, but it's a relief to me when my guns get their first blemishes.

I dont share the love,If I dont use them I dont need them laying around.
Seems to be a waste to me.When do you show them off? The range would be a good place.;)

Mleake, hehe Im waiting for my first ding on my new vehicle...wait I drove it out into the desert and in the mtns. Mission accomplished! :D

But I tend to concur with what others are saying shoot em up! Although admittedly there are several guns on my "I want" list that I wouldn't shoot very often, but only because I can't see myself enjoying shooting something like an old Walther that much, but I sure would like the gun that Bond immortalized or something like a Mosin, that's a real functional piece of history. Although the Mosin I imagine I would like shooting :D

All of my revolvers are to pretty to shoot, but I shoot them anyway. For me I see no need in having anything I'm not willing to use as it was in tented to be used. I do take excellent care of all of them though.
