Hey All,

Bought my first wheel gun today a used Colt Trooper MKIII. I didnt put any research into this purchase purely an impulse buy. I liked the look and feel of the gun plus the fact that it was a Colt helped in the decision.

Is that the

original barrel? I would check the space in front of the cylinder real close.

Nice pistol.... I have one too and really like it... but put my 6" barrel back on because the 8" I milled my self and didn't get a good gap... would spray lead on anyone standing beside me when fired....

I used to hit 5 gallon buckets with mine at about 200+ yards!

I don't know why, but around here Colt DA revolvers are relatively rare but cheaper than a comparitive S&W. Good thing too, because I have taken a liking to them lately and am wanting to add a couple to my "accumulation" of guns in the safe in the next few weeks. Nice example you have there. The Mk III trooper is a solid gun that should last you years of shooting.

Enjoy.

Im really looking forward to shooting it this weekend. I have shot a Ruger security six and liked it. Hopefully this shoots similiar or better. Also does anyone sell nice wood grips for these models.

One of the most popular after-market grips for the Mark III is the Hogue Mono-grip.
It seems to fit your hand better than most others.

If you intend to dry fire your new Trooper Mark III, be sure to use snap caps.

Once in a while you get a hard firing pin that can break if dry fired.
A Mark III REQUIRES a trip back to Colt for a replacement due to special tooling and support jigs needed to press the old pin out, the new pin in, and to stake the bushing in place.

My 40 year old Python was my standard for comparing the accuracy of a new gun until I bought a used 6" Trooper. It shoots tighter groups tahn the Python. I've tried a number of Troopers and I really like the action.

What's the barrel length on yours?

John

Good choice. I owned a nickel plated 6" Trooper for twenty years, before trading it a couple of years ago. It was the first magnum revolver I ever owned and I found it to be an excellent shooter. However I traded it towards a 5" M27. What can I say. I got the Colt when I was fifteen and over the years I became a fan of S&W. However you made a good buy. Welcome to the world of wheelguns. I became a convert about three years ago and I haven't looked back.

Good choice. A Trooper Mk III has an exceptional trigger. I have tried both it and a Python and honestly can't tell a difference. I think you will be very please with your new toy:p

Its a 7in barrel should be accurate!!
If it's an unmolested factory barrel then it should be a 8 incher. Measure from the muzzle to the end of the forcing cone (just in front of the cylinder).

Mark III grips

Hi and congratulations on the Mark III!

I have had a 6" one since I was a teenager and it's still mint, and recently came upon a 4" model as well. I would HIGHLY recommend you check out Jim Badgers Custom grips. I put a set on the 4" and it's amazing the quality of work he does and how much better they feel. You can google him and come up with a website for him.

All this magnum revolver talk has me itching for another!
