My first try at making a rifle rest

I bought a rest for sighting in my scopes but I could not use it on my 10/22 since all I had was a 25 round clip. And my AR had the same problem since all I have is 30 round clips . So I went looking thru the scrap bin at the local junk yard and this is what I came up with. It's not the best looking one I have ever seen and my welding skills are horrible but its pretty stout and seems to work well. Plus I can put any mag in my guns I want now. Let me know what you guys think.

Thats great!! Finally a use for scissor jacks!! Thats a great idea and I'm already planning to copy it in some fashion . Does it jump around much?

Very very cool, how much did it cost you? I had the same problem, but I bought 10 rd mags instead

It dosen't jump around at all but so far all I have shot off it is .22 and.223 . The base is 12 inch wide c channel steel . All togther it weighs about 40 pounds without a weapon. I am going to try it with the mosin m44 tomorrow.
we will see how much it moves then.

The scrap yard charges 20 cents a pound I think there was about 35 pounds of metal in it. so theres about 7.00 in metal and I already had the bags I got them at walmart last year. and I swiped the velcro from my wifes sewing room

That looks great, I'm kicking around ideas for a new rest and wanted to incorporate a elevation adjustment as well.
I am leaning toward a fixed butt end and an adjustable front.
I was kicking around the idea that a couple of attic door springs could keep the unit under constant tension and remove any looseness too.

Well I got a chance to shoot again today and the rest did great with the mosin. We also used it on a black powder .50 cal. of my friends it did fine with that as well.

Nice job!!!!!!! With that wide C channel, you have room to add weight like they do for the expensive lead sled and it probably wouldn't move even shooting one of the African calibers.....
