My first Sig.

So I walked into my local gun store looking to buy another Glock today. I sold mine years ago and still regret it to this day. Well I got to handle a Sig P226 and I decided I would put the Sig on layaway with the money I had for a Glock. It took a lot of discipline because I wanted to walk out of the store that day with a gun but I feel I made the right decision. I will eventually get another Glock in the near future. They are great guns and this is in no way bashing them at all. I wanted the Sig and decided to practice some self discipline and not settle.

Welcome to the SIG family. I am sure that you will enjoy it. It is always good to get what you want as regret is not a good thing. I freely admit that I am impulsive and as such have things I could live without. So you are definitely one up on me in will control.

I have one Glock - Glock 17 and 1 Sig - Sig X-Five Competition. A totally unfair comparison of the two brands, but needless to say, I am a Sig fan.

You cannot go wrong with a Sig P226. I have one in 9MM and .357 Sig and love them. Very accurate and dependable.

The hardest thing was getting away from a Glock. It's the only semi auto I shot for years. I know it sounds silly but for some reason I would get cold feet when looking at other guns afraid they would not be as reliable as the Glock.

I can understand this. I had a S&W 659 for years that I found hard to go away from. I still have it and shoot it on occasion.

The single biggest factor in my estimation is the marked difference in the manual of arms; Glock vs. Sig. For those Sig models with a DA/SA operating system, (and that's what the majority of P226's use) you'll need to become proficient in the use of that Decocker Lever. Re-holstering with a fully cocked hammer, and no add'l safety would be a major worry until you're versed its use. Rod

That's a very good point and I haven't even given it a thought. I also worry about the gun being a full size semi auto as well. I wanted a full size to carry but now I just have to find a good conceal option. If anyone has any recommendations they would be appreciated. I'm 6,0 tall about 200 lbs.

I've often thought it would be nice to get a Sig and see what all the excitement is about. I'd also like to get an HK for the same reason. They're on my 'really nice to have' list that I'll get around to when that lottery ticket hits.

Good for you for going for what you want. That kind of attitude will probably serve you well in a variety of ways in the future.

I could see that feeling in the 90s. But today? It is silly. Heckler and Koch, Smith and Wesson, SIG Sauer, and others all make very reliable weapons. Some just as reliable and some even more reliable than Glock. Don't fret.

it's amazing how technology has made weapons almost 100% reliable. I actually have my eye on an H&K USP .45. Have had a love affair with that gun for years. This may be my next expensive gun. God I love layaway

I think you'll be very happy with your choice. As has already been mentioned, the big difference will be the DA/SA trigger system. My suggestion is to get a set of snap caps and begin extensive dry fire practice. At the range, I like to practice by drawing from the holster, firing two rounds ( first double action, second single) decocking, then reholstering.

Everyone has their preferred carry method; its really a matter of trial and error to find what works best for you. With the right setup and clothes, carrying a full size is definitely doable. I'm fairly happy with my new Alien Gear IWB holster.

I havent ever even shot a sig. I was close to buying a SP2022, but once i handled one my opinion changed, fat bulky grip, didnt like it.

They are good guns

I think you made a wish decision. I currently have 3 Sigs. STX, C3 and a P238. I sold my P230 when I bought the P238. All four where finely crafted with excellent fit, finish and accuracy. All are dependable and eat everything I feed them.

Gratz on the Sig. I am with others who have said it won't be your last. I have 2 226's, a 229, a 224, a 938 and just for laughs a 1911-22 (LOL best thing out there for learninag 1911 manual of arms).
