Hello,

Recently I bought a MVP Flex 20" in .308 on gun broker.

Read great reviews on the rifle and decided it was exactly what I was looking for. So eventually a 308. with the 20" barrel showed up on gun broker and couldn't let it pass by.

Now i'm looking into scopes. Iv done a little research and it appears what I might be looking for is something like a Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x50. This rifle will be mainly used for target shooting (Longest range here is 500 yards).

What do you guys think?

Any bi-pod recommendations will be greatly appreciated as well.

This is my third firearm iv added to my collection. I also have a Glock 23 Gen 3 and a CZ Rami BD in 9mm.
 
I'm a benchrest shooter 308 caliber Remington 700 bolt action. If its only for target shooting, l would look at a fixed powder Weaver T24 or T36 with a Harris bi - pod. You could look into a lighter trigger, your's is 3+ pounds where for target its in ounces. Hope I Helped, Nice choice on the rifle, good luck with it & keep it clean.
 
I would stay away from the lower end vortex scopes, they don't have the best reputation for being stellar optics. If you want to stay with a Vortex scope, I'd take a look at the Viper scopes. I run the 4-16x50 Viper PST on a custom 24" AR 10 308 out to 700-800 regularly and to 1000 every so often with great clarity, and tracking.
That being said, I do not shoot bench rest, I just ring 6-10 inch plates out in the middle of nowhere at random ranges.
 
OP. Congratulations on your first rifle. I'm sure you will learn a whole lot from your experiences with it. You may find that it shoots the lights out, which is not entirely unheard of even from so called "budget" or "starter" rifles.

I do think that you will find when the subject is optics you get what you pay for. Where your rifle may be more accurate than other, more expensive, offerings, typically with a rifle scope one really does get a better product the more he spends.

I've had numerous scopes on rifles through the years. I have found for my uses the clarity of the optics and the repeatability of the adjustments to be the two greatest features of quality. Using these two benchmarks for comparison, for the money spent, IOR rifle scopes have proven themselves to me over and over. Some manufacturers will give you huge magnifications, yet when you look through their products the image is hazy or distorted through the magnification range. The edges of the image look like someone smeared vaseline on the lenses or something. If you shoot for very long behind such optics, you will grow fatigued, get a headache, and generally not enjoy it as much.

With good clear glass you don't need magnification to see your target clearly, and reference your reticle properly. I'm sure you will find suitable scope for your use, but do take a look at IOR.

I have read that in a few places about scopes.

"You get what you paid for"

I'll have to keep looking around for something in my price range. I can probably reach out to $300.

Any other suggestions?
 
For $300 the MidwayUSA exclusive weaver tactical grand slam 3-10x40 will do what you want and it's a mil/mil scope which IMO is superior than MOA or 1/4" clicks for target ahooting
