Hi guys

Im buying my first gun tomorrow and woud like your input.

Background:Im in South Africa and unfortunately the average wait for a licensie is about 20 months. Thus, I cant exactly take it back once I get it.

Purpose: Ill be using the pistol for CCW, home defense and once I actually receive it sport shooting (IDPA).

Currently I've narrowed it down to two specific pistols: Glock 17 or the CZ P07 Duty.

What would you Recommend and why?

Thanks
T

Both good weapons.

I've owned a Glock 17 since the early 90s and I am quite happy with it. reliable, rugged easy to clean.

The CZs have a great reputation as well, but I don't own one. So I can't say for sure.

Best wishes

Used to own a CZ (Not the P-07) and I would recommend the Glock. I prefer the striker rather than hammer guns - better first shot with the Glock than the double action first shot of the P-07.

I have a G17 and a CZ75. Both are built like tanks, plenty accurate, hold lots of ammo and will do for IDPA or home defense.

The Glock is better for carry. It's lighter and more comfortable. You're more likely to have it with you. In your place, I'd buy the Glock, do a simple fluff & buff on the action and maybe change the sights.

My Glock 17 is a generation 2, refurbished police pistol with TFO sights and a refinished slide.

For CCW the Glocks are a lot lighter, but for your other needs I like the CZ's. If you're a young guy the weight won't make much differents, but us old guys like the light weight. CZ's are awsome for shooting guns.

And I love the hammer guns over the striker, again I'm older. I also like the safety over the decocker.

What do you got to pay for them over there?

Why not go with the G19? A bit smaller than the G17: good defensive power and easier to carry. The CZ has its fans, but being fairly new to the marketplace, it lacks a long-term history of reliability and performance.

We have at least one other member from South Africa--try contacting him. I believe his screen name is Amin Parker, and he seems to be a knowledgeable sort. Also a CZ fan, IIRC.

Get the Glock. If you are in fact using it for ccw purposes, the lighter weight will offer more comfort. Plus I love Glocks! I have a Glock 22 and carry it everyday and everywhere I legally can.

Although today I carried it into a hospital that had a no guns sign posted. In my defense the sign had a revolver with a cross through it. I did carry my revolver in also...:D

Great Glock almighty is that grey Duracoat on that G17?

It’s KG GunKote. I wanted a gun that was truly unique and I got one. I sent Lawler the slide and a piece of ESD mat from my work bench. They matched the color perfectly.

You’ll never see another gun quite like it.

South Africa - Twenty months to ...

.. get a pistol.

That being the case, I'd suggest you look at the law as it applies to buying a .22 adaptor for the Glock.
If its legal, you get two guns for the price of one and on--half and the .22 allows for inexpensive practice and casual shooting.

I know several Glocks can use .22 adaptors -- don't know about the CZs.

Adaptor is a new slide/barrel and a new magazine.
Simply remove old slide/barrel as though cleaning and replace with the .22 version.
.

Well the glocks generally go for R9,500 at 7.72694 $>ZAR thats $1229.46.

The 17 is currently on special for R7,000 ($905.92). The Gen4 is due next week thus its the gen3 on sale.

The CZ P07 Duty is going at a cash price of R6,500 ($841.21).

The .22 conversion would be pretty schweet... It is legal but the barrel and frame would have to be registered. So I dont know if ill be anle to get it on purchase or wait for the registration docs.

Will ask the guys tomorrow
