Ok,next year i'll be turning 21 and be able to buy my first handgun.
At the same time I plan on c/c it as soon as I get my license.

So I want a "Fun first with function" here and im not sure how to do it.

Im only looking at auto's here so the die hard revolver guys can leave.
Nothing against revolver's,I just prefer auto's.

Im not a fan of GLOCK's.Im sorry fanboys but I just don't feel comfortable without an external safety.

I would LOVE for my first to be GI PARA 1911 but I hear those can get heavy.

SIG's don't fit my hand right.Too big

HI Point...:barf:

The only thing that I can think of right now that would be a good choice for me would probably be a S&W M&P 9mm subcompact. It's light, adjustable grips, external safety, reliable and of course it's a S&W.

Ok ,i'v shown you what im comfortable and not comfortable with.Your job now is to make me go "Oh yeah why didn't I think of *Blank* gun!"
and make suggestion's.

Thanks for all your help.

Small hands? I love my EMP for that reason.

Other reasons:

-.45 ACP is spendy, unless you handload. If you DO, 9mm is still cheaper, and brass is FREE, because nobody else saves it.

-It is lighter than a steel 1911, but functions and dissasembles essentially the same.

-It conceals easily because it is flat and TINY. I also have carried revolvers, but the cylinder makes them "lumpy"- not comfortable IWB.

have you looked at the Springfield XD?

first/only pistol is the Glock 21SF, but I have handled several XDs - am raelly wanting to shoot one

in my non-expert mind, they are like the Glocks to me, only comfortable & have "real" safeties, LOL

A good 1911 is a great gun - chambered in 9mm or .45 acp. You'll find that a 1911 will fit smaller hands very well.

I have a Kimber 4" barrel 1911 9mm Tactical Pro II model - nice and light / its a good gun to train new shooters. I prefer a 5" barrel in a 1911 - and Wilson Combat, Springfield, Kimber etc all make some of their guns in 9mm.

A Sig 239 ( their single stack ) is another "slim model" - and available in 9mm, .357 Sig or .40 S&W. I have one in .40S&W that I use for a "backup gun".

Unless you're going to get into reloading / stay with a 9mm - keep the cost of ammo down / so you will actually go to the range once a week and practice with it. Too many guys buy .40S&W or .45 acp's and then only shoot them 4 times a year because they don't want / or can't pay $ 18 - $25 a box for ammo.

If you would stake your life on it, and are comfortable with it's features and already have a confidence with/for the M&P then you probably know the answer.
