My First Handgun

I took delivery of my 1st handgun on Friday. I bought a Springfield Armory XD9 subcompact, 3 inch barrel. I took it to the range and shot 100 rounds through it without any issues. I am in love with this gun. I plan on replacing the stock sights with optical fiber sights. I'm new to the forum and I will be back to share my experiences with this gun and to get answers to questions I might have. This is the first time I've shot in a indoor range and I thought I did pretty well. The guns accuracy far exceeds mine but once I get the hang of it I should see improvement/closer grouping. And now for the pictures. The large target (black) was placed roughly 20 yds out and the smaller (green) target at around 10 yds.

It looks like you did better on the farther away target! Not bad at all. Keep working on your center of mass hits and don't worry about making head shots.

I am a big fan of the XD myself and keep it has my primary home defense handgun and shoot it alot at the range too. If you are to use the gun for protection, I would suggest you leave the 3-dot sights or get tritium sights instead.

All and all very nice work.

Thanks. I noticed that I had better grouping with the larger target even though it was further away. I'm going to look at tritium sight but most them are a bit pricey. I'm going to do some internet searching.

Congradulations on the purchase. Its a great pistol and should serve you well for many years. Of course you made one terrible error, though. Now you've been bitten by the bug and will have to spend countless more dollars feeding the habbit, just like the rest of us. :D

Man I know what you mean. I am itching to go back to range and shoot. I can't stop looking at accessories for the XD. So many choices and so little money to go around:( I'm already looking at another pistol for my next purchase but thats going to be months down the line but then again, who knows

Good lookin' gun and I like that that grip length is switchable from compact to full size. I was handling one of this in a local gun shop a few weeks ago and it felt great!

Congrats...

... dont worry....

... wont take long for your one to become two,,,,three,,,, four... etc. etc. on and on.. more and more..:D

@ mes227 Yeah the high capacity magazine, 16 rounds, has the extended grip. The extra inch on the grip makes the gun far more comfortable to handle and shoot. The regular 12 round magazine isn't too bad to handle either. I've tried the pistol with the high capacity magazine in a IWB holster and it was comfortable to wear and it barely printed. I'm definitely happy with this handgun. I can't stop playing around with it and field stripping it/reassembling it.
@ disco I can't wait. I'm already looking at a few handguns for my next purchase. Looking at the XDM, Sig 229, or a Glock 27. I got a thing for subcompacts. I'm planning to get a CWP soon and like concealable weapons. I appreciate all your comments and inputs.

Nice gun... I have an xd .45 5" and love it, hearing good things and about the subcompact with the flush and extended mags is kinda making me want one one of those.

I've had an XD9SC for a bunch of years, originally thought I would use it for IDPA. That hasn't happened but it is my main carry weapon, easy to pack IWB with the 10 round magazine. The only accessories I've picked up is are a few more mags, a bottom plate for the short mag to support my pinkie and a high intensity light which I never use. It's a good gun.

It wont be long before you start buying more and more and more. Handguns are addictive.

Congratulations on your pistol and welcome to the world of handgunning. Shooting and collecting handguns is one addictive and fun hobby.
