My first gun... :-)

Well, after being a gun enthusiast for a long time and comtemplating the purchase of many different firearms (without the cash to actually buy any of them), I finally started my collection. Since my funds are limited and I can't possibly have one without making regular visits to the range, one of my main considerations was price of ammo. So, I decided I'd get a .22lr pistol because it's a cheap but accurate load. Aside from the fact that it's not very powerful, I think the .22lr is one of the best calibers out there (my first choice for defense is a .40S&W).
Anyway, my decision came down to either the Browning Buckmark, or a SIG Trailside. Since my friend beat me to it and bought a Buckmark, I figured I'd buy a pistol I can't just borrow from my friend to shoot.
So, after finally finding one for sale (none of the local stores had any available and basically said "Good luck finding one"), I bought it (along with an AK-47 he had for sale :D, what can I say, I'm a sucker ;)). I have to wait for the guns to be shipped through my local dealer before I'll actually have them, though.

So, the point of my post is this:
In the mean time, I was just wanting to hear any comments from anyone here who's owned or fired a Trailside. Any words of wisdom for a soon-to-be Trailside owner?

I understand they are a great gun. I have one (a six inch) on my "want-to-buy" list! I already own a Buckmark Standard and a Ruger Mk. 2 Competition. You will love it!

I am not familiar with either mentioned pistols.I would reconsider my thoughts on your self defense piece. If money is an issue, 9mm is about half the price of .40sw ammo. You can shoot alot more 9mm for the for what you will shell out in .40sw.I own 3 .40sw, and do enjoy them. I don't regret buying them either, but 9mm is cheaper in price, and just as reliable as stopping power as the .40sw.It's shot placement not caliber that counts. The initial price will be the same between the 9mm and .40sw pistol. The ammo is cheaper.SAFE-SHOOTING!

Welcome to TFL! I think you did well. Many of us here has a 22LR as our first gun. You can't go wrong with the price of ammo. Now all you have to do is practice, practice, practice, and practice safely! Congrats. :)

Congratulations and welcome to TFL!:)

The Trailside you get may be ammo sensitive. I have only fired three different Trailsides, but two of them were very picky and one of those only like the CCI Stingers. However, when fed a load they liked all three were very accurate. These were all early imports, so the ammo sensitivity may no longer be an issue.

That AKM probably won't care what ammo you feed it.;)
