My first gun turned out to be a 12 gauge shotgun!

I bought my first real firearm a couple weeks ago, and it turned out to be a shotgun. Why? Because I like the destructive power of a shotgun, and I'm not quite of age for a handgun yet.

The gun I got is a Remington 870 Express Magnum Synthetic with an 18" barrel. I haven't got the chance to take it to the range yet, because it's too cold right now, so I'll have to wait until it warms up. My intentions for this gun are the range, and home defense until I can get a longer barrel to take it hunting.

Anyway here she is...

Great choice of gun. You will enjoy it- it will last longer than you will. Onc eyou have put 1000 rds through it, she will be as smooth as silk....

Me Too

My first gun was a winchester 1300 12ga. :D I love that pump action.

Age was also a problem. Only a few more years to go.

Congrats, nice shotgun.

Just remember to pick up a .22 rifle at some point too. You wouldn't believe how much fun you can have with one (or several) of them.

that is cool.

hope you get plenty of practice. mine should be coming in on Wed.

post your results after you go find a range. I need pics

Good choice - my first gun was also a 12 ga. The bad news is, it recoils a lot. The good news is, if you can handle the recoil of that with 3" magnums, you can handle the recoil of anything up to .30-06 and beyond pretty easily.

Just remember that barrel will suck on game- its just too loose. I only use my 870P for night shooting from the back of the truck, when ranges are close.

I do have a .22 pump action rifle as well, but I meant to say, the first firearm I bought MYSELF is a shotgun. The .22 was a gift from my dad. When my Dad passes away, all his guns are going to me:eek: :o

I do have a Remington .22 pump action rifle that was given to me as a gift. What I meant to say, was my first firearm that I bought with my own money, turned out to be a 12 gauge shotgun. I must agree that .22s are fun to shoot. :D

My first gun was a 12 gauge too. I got it when I has 14 or 15, just some no name pump action made in china, but man that gun works well for the 75.00 I paid for it. It has about four good season of use on it and it still goes boom every time. I have about 150-200 shells through it and it is getting a lot smoother than when it was new.

I bought a fairly nice side by side the week I turned 18. I've just always liked 12 guages more for some reason, I think that its the fact that you can shoot basicly any game with it if you have the right shells (target loads for small game, slugs for deer).

my first gun was an 11-87. i was young, she was beautiful....
now i keep her in the closet till i need to use it.
a GREAT relationship
