My First Glock... New to Me, but Not a New Feeling It Seems

I purchased a Glock 19 last weekend after going gun shopping with my wife on a few occasions and having her rent the Glock 19 twice without my influence! In fact, she rented one on Saturday, and at the last shop we visited we found a used one with two 17 round mags, a 15 round mag, and night sites. It's got the flat front frame so I believe that's 1st or 2nd gen, correct?

At any rate, this is a contender for my concealed carry pistol. Lighter weight than a Makarov or Beretta, plus 17+1 rounds! It seems as if the previous owner kept it as a carry weapon or tucked away in the safe because there was no real indication when it was disassembled of it having been shot much at all, just a lot of dust in the pistol and in the plastic case.

So, now I'm a Glock fan, even though we haven't shot this pistol. I knew it was only a matter of time before I bought one. Now, if they would only buy them for us in the military. I think it would make a nice match to the black rifle everyone loves so much!

Will I be selling my other pistols to buy more Glocks? I'm amazed at just how much the S&W Sigma .380 is modeled after the Glock, now that I've seen them side by side.

No finger grooves and if the front and back of the grip are checkard it's second generation. If it's the same pebble type pattern all around the grip it's a first generation.

Good Luck

I use a Glock 19 for my winter carry pistol and I like it alot. Find a good load that shoots well from yours (I use Silvertips) and it should do you well.

Good choice

Good choice! I carry a Glock 23 in winter months and a Glock 19 other times. Love them both and I'm sure you will too. Now for you holster....have you decided yet how you will carry it. I use a SideArmor IWB...a bit expensive but worth it.

Yeah, there's an interesting story with that. Glock originally tried to sue S&W for patent infringement over the Sigma's. They probably would have won, but over the course of the letigation, the two companies seemed to have worked it out. Glock wounded up selling a blanket license to S&W so they could use the design and manufacture the guns.

I picked up a 1st gen G19 and like it so far. It rides in a Comp-Tac undercover kydex holster. Cost me $41 for the holster and it fits well. Gonna put some night sites on it soon. Welcome to the Dark side.

If you have found "the gun", go out and get three more of the same weapon. Remember to buy bunches and bunches of mags.

I'll be buying a bunch of 10-round range mags in the near future. The only quirk I'd like to change: all three mags are not drop-free. Also, it's second generation if Blue Duck is correct, which works fine with the Hogue wraparound. What were the approximate production dates for 1st/2nd generations?

The holster I picked up with it is a Bianchi. I wanted a holster that would hold the pistol secure with an overstrap. I love the Kydex holster for my Beretta 92, but the Bianchi seemed to be more secure. It's probably just my imagination, but I'm comfortable with it so far and that's what matters.

I was unsure as to whether or not I'd get a G19 or G23. My wife kind of made the decision as to which I'd get first, as I'd like to have a pistol which she enjoys shooting. Now, I'll just have to wait and get a G23 with equal amount of preban mags and a .357Sig barrel...

I'd heard that story about Glock suing S&W over the Sigma design. In fact, it led me to purchase my Sigma since the dealer told me it was going to be banned in the state I was living at the time and S&W was going to discontinue production based on the court case. I don't know if they were banned, and they're still making them. Another happy dealer, although I'm glad I got one of those neat pistols.

You're gonna love your Glock 19, I've owned one for years and it's probably my favorite concealed carry gun. It has everything that you need, rust proof, night sights, high capacity and reliable. It's one of Glocks most popular models and for very good reason.

Blue Duck is not normally correct, but is in this case ;)

Go to the link below and look under "Free services". You can send in your serial number and they will E-mail you back your "born on" date in a week or two. They also have a lot of good info including disassmebly intructions with pictures.

P.S. Just internet gossip with no real source but I've heard the Sigma/Glock suit was settled out of court some time ago.
