My first Florida almost!

My Son established himself in Florida, way b/4 I came down to live here from Toronto.

When I was here on a Holiday/Visit, my Son said, lets go to the movies, him and I did just that, The West Oaks Mall, on Hy-way 50.

Years B/4 I had obtained a CCW. So I was carrying a Glock 17, WOW for a Canadian. We both were, and still are savy people, threat wise.

On exiting the movie, we found an older couple (older than me even) looking lost, they said our Cadillac has gone!

My Son said which entrance did you come in at? There are two ways in, so you could be on the other side. Oh yes the Older Gentleman said, that,s where we parked.

We went to our parked SUV (My Jeep, Ontario plates) they set off walking, by the time we had located my motor, and drove off, a few minutes had gone by, my Son said "Lets see how that couple are doing, this is a noted Gang hang out"

Sure enough, 4 or 5 young guys were walking 25m or so behind them, heading towards a lone like new Cadillac, parked under a lamp. About 100m away.

The couple were oblivious. We pulled along side the old people, the man was not doing well walking, had a limp. I said "Is that your car Dad?" pointing. He said it was, I said jump in, we will give you a lift. They did, we waited till they started up, and drove off, so did the little group! On the way out, I stopped next to them. Liverpool accent alive and well... "Aright Lads" Yes Sir said one of them.

We all went home.

Well done.
I hope that when I get old there are young people around to look out for me, too.
And I am partially old already.

At 77 I am not old, well maybe a bit, well preserved? The every day carried Glock 19 is sitting behind me, on the bed side table.

Just in case!

How dare you stereotype and assume the worst of those conscientious young men who were obviously just following to make sure the old couple made it to their car OK! ;)

As a policeman winkingly told me the other day... "We are sworn to uphold the Constitution and the Bill of Rights... you're not"

When I saw only one vehicle in that parking lot? I kind of assumed I was on the right horse!

All my life I have been looking out for people (sticking my nose in were it was not wanted some of the time!) plus I have to say, most likely because of my upbringing, were I was born? Who knows, I used to like to fight!

As a visitor to the US at the time of this incident, I knew not much about the Laws, but a lot of life had gone under my shoes then. In the Brit Army in Germany, traveled all over Europe, lived in Australia/Canada, and traveled all over North America.

The most active part of that time, 5 years as a Bouncer (part time Thur.Fri. Sat. nights) full time five and half days as well, working in the Installation of TV business.

A Bouncer in Liverpool, 1960 till 1965, a license to fight! Only got stabbed twice.
At the Cavern Club of Beatles fame, 1960 to 1964.

It is only when we moved to North America that I found it is not accepted here, no punch on the nose response now.

Looking back, did I feel I did the right thing? My Son said lets follow those people, meaning the couple, I did. My gut told me that old feeling Oh-Oh.

Yes we did right.

Kudos. You definitely did the right thing.

Unfortunately you guys were in a "bad" part of Central FL. West Oaks mall is not in a very good area. I've only been there once and intend to never go back, although I pass by that mall a few times a month.

next time you come visit, try Millenia Mall.

No more visiting, now a US Citizen, live here in Florida.

And West Oaks Mall is not on my list of places to go!

just like 1 isn't true "islander" ifnot born&raised in Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket

Brit, I believe FL natives call you a "transplant". I don't mean that in a deragatory way; congrats on the move. My best friend since the age of twelve resides in the Orlando area w/his common law wife. They love FL.
