My First Colt

I picked this Colt up this weekend for what I believe was a good price. Anyway, this is my first Colt. What do y'all think? Can anyone give me some information about it? Thanks.

Colt 1911
Government Model (United States Property)
Model of 1911 U.S. Navy

Serial No. 38276

The guy I bought it from rated it at 80%. I don't know how to 'rate' it but I can say that finish wear is the only thing wrong with it. Seems to function flawlessly. If someone can provide me with some information to check against the gun to see if its all original I would appreciate it. I think it is, but don't know. But for now, here are some pics that I took last night. I'll try to take some good ones of it tonight. Thanks.

It looks like you have one of the 31,000+ Colt Model 1911's that were manufactured for the U.S. Navy from 1911-1914. The serial number you've posted would indicate your Model 1911 was made in 1913. From your pictures it does appear to have the original blued finish. At 80% condition your Model 1911 could be worth close to $1,400. To get a better idea of how to judge the condition of a firearm I would recommend purchasing a copy of the Blue Book of Gun Values, by S.P. Fjestad and currently in its 22nd edition. The author deticates a section of this book using color photos on how to grade the overall condition of a firearm. Hope this helps!

Hi, gumby,

What is the marking on the left side of the frame ahead of the slide stop? I can't tell from the pictures.
