My early birthday present is in,,,
An Uberti 1873 5.5" Cattleman in .22 LR.

I own a 5.5" Dakota revolver in .357 Magnum,,,
With Bob Wright's help I was able to get an approximate pedigree on it.

The gun was made by Armi Jager and imported by Intercontinental Arms,,,
As near as I can tell from my reading it was imported in the early 70's.

Anyways, you know I'm freaky for matched handguns in centerfire/rimfire,,,
I was recently made aware of the Uberti and how closely it matches my Dakota.

It's not an exact match by any means,,,
But it was close enough that when Taylors & Co. finally got one in,,,
I hit The Evil Pawn Shop guy and had him order one for me the very next day.

The .357 Dakota (bottom) I named Savannah,,,
The .22 Cattleman (top) I have named Charlotte.

I'll not get to fire Charlotte until this weekend,,,
I'll add a range report when I get to take her dancing.

Charlotte... has some pretty colors...

a very nice set...

BTW... you still buying 22's ??? is ammo abundant in your area, or are you still working on stash...

I know they'll show up around here ( they are trickling in, but still sell out in a day or two ) I've pretty much given up on shooting anything 22 LR, until I can walk in & buy for reasonable prices :o I have a golden boy on my list... I keep bumping it down until ammo is plentiful again

BTW... happy birthday, & enjoy :)

I still have a big stash,,,

I still have a big stash,,,
And have been fortunate enough to be able to replenish most of what I have used.

I made friends with a person who works at a Wal-Mart,,,
A few times he has let me know in advance when a large shipment hit.

I bought three 550 round bulk packs two weeks ago,,,
And I scored 500 rounds of Mini-Mags as well.

I also have a friend who lives close to a Bass Pro,,,
He will stop there and if they have anything he'll call me,,,
So I'm still able to shoot my .22 rifles and handguns quite often.

Savannah has beautiful coloring as well,,,
You just can't see because of the danged flash reflection.

I'll take better pics when I get the holsters finished.

Hiya Microgunner,,,

Charlotte's the heavier of the two?

I don't have a scale to weigh them on,,,
But the frames are identical in size and shape,,,
Logic says with smaller chambers Charlotte should weigh more.

In my un-calibrated hands they feel exactly the same.

I try a little pistol spinning every now and then,,,
I'm not good at it at all but they feel the same in a basic twirl.

Very nice! When I was a kid I had a Dakota in .45 with a brass grip frame. Back then I didn't care for it, but now I like them. Yours look cool!

Now I need to make a gunbelt and holster for them.

Now I need to make a gunbelt and holster for them.

My decision is whether to make a rig that is authentic to the old west,,,
Or to make a rig that is authentic to the west that never was.

I'm thinking something fairly fancy,,,
Something that Roy or Hoppy would have worn.

Rig

Sweet looking guns! Looking forward to the rig your making for them!

PS: have you used the range/gunsmith at the army surplus business west of town?

Hello 2ndsojourn,,,

Hey my friend,,,
Thanks a lot for that link.

I love the west that never was,,,
I grew up on the tail end of that movie era.

I have holsters already,,,

I was sitting there last night,,,
Scanning through the book Packing Iron,,,
Looking for inspiration for a rig for my two SA's.

Then it hit me,,,
I already have two holsters,,,
They are hanging on my wall right now.

Many years ago I made a custom rig for a SASS cowgirl,,,
She used two 5.5" Colt Peacemakers for her guns,,,
So I made a fancy rig but she stiffed me on it,,,
I've been using them to display my Daisy's.

I will need to make a new gunbelt to accommodate .357/.22 ammo,,,
Not to mention I have a 63 year old pot-belly to fit to,,,
But the holsters are a great fit and I like them.

As you can see, the guns fit the holster,,,
I'll dampen the leather again and mold them perfectly,,,
So now my new guns are close to having a set of leather to call home.
