My Deer Hunting Story

Back in about 1979 or 80 I was fairly young and energetic (compared to today). Anyway, I was heating my home with firewood and cutting an enormous amount of cottonwood trees. I went out one day to cut another load of firewood, not even aware that it was deer season. I had permission to cut fallen trees down by the river and was happily going about my business, when I saw something big fall out of a very nearby tree. I had my earplugs in as I was cutting up a tree. It was a man with a compound bow. He looked very angry, made a statement something like "I could have put an arrow right through you" and walked off in a very angry fashion. I was (wisely, I think) speechless.

He was asleep and not tied in, his fault not yours. Guys fall asleep in stands all of the time. If the people here are honest, there are some here.

Thank you, swamphost. I have felt guilty all these years about ruining that guys hunting day with my frivolous afternoon of cutting firewood. I am sort of hoping that he will read this and be able to respond and verbalize his thought and feelings regarding this tragic incident and he can move on with his life instead of ruminating about that day like he probably does!

You were doing your thing and he was doing his. Paths cross sometimes. The fact that he was not buckled up is not your concern.

I've never hunted in a tree, but I get the best naps when I spring turkey hunt.

I wasn't sleeping dammit, I was drawing down on an 8-pointer when you cranked up that chainsaw!

I have been cursing you for all these years. I have nightmares about you.
Because of you I have been seeing a psychiatrist for 4 years, as you can see, it hasn't helped much.

My seconds will be contacting you, sir, and we shall settle this matter on the Field of Honor.

Good Day, Sir.

Not getting harnassed up in a tree stand is dumb. The guy was lucky he didnt get killed.

Now sleeping while sitting in the ground blind...I've done that a time or two!
especially during early bow season when it is warm.

Geez, someone even corrected my spelling. What the heck?

Simonkenton, I awaite your man. Name the time. Let's meet at the I'm OK, your OK Corral.

For the love of God, sir!

As the one being challenged, it is up to you to name the time!

We must behave according to the Code Duello!

Also, naturally, the location and choice of weapons is yours.
