Just traded my M&P9 for this, a 1975 Combat Commander

The only problem with it is someone decided to file down the grip safety flush with the tangs.

So my only real plans for it are replace the grip safety with either another commander one or a rat tail and a trigger job because my Wiley Clapp has me spoiled. Now all I need is some old school gun leather.

^^^ Seriously, please tell me this wasn't a straight-up trade. Because if it was, I feel sorry for the poor sap you traded with.

Very nice. I don't especially care for the smooth grips, but grips can be replaced without harming anything. Were those the factory grips when that pistol was manufactured?

I hope you can find an original Commander-style grip safety for it. I've had no luck finding the early type Commander grip safeties, and I have taken to making my own by filing down A1-style GI grip safeties.

It was an M&P9 with a surefire, apex trigger, 10-8 sights, 6 mags, raven holster and mag pouch. Adding everything up, it was a fair trade.

It most likely originally had a commander grip safety on it, similar to this.

And I didn't think I would like the grips either, but they're actually grippier that I figured they would be. But after I get a new grip safety in and take it to the range it's probably going to end up as a carry gun, so it'll probably end up with Pachmayrs on it. I think they were original because most of the Colts I've seen from around that time have either grips like this, or the full checkered grips.

I found a couple used, but Numrich and Brownells have new regular commander grip safeties.

Nice Commander! Luckily, the frame doesn't look to be damaged. Personally, I would go back with an original style Commander safety. I like the grips and would carry it awhile before replacing them with Pachmayrs, you might like them.

Nice trade, OP, you got a fabulous gun. I actually like smooth grips like that. Dealer's choice. Go shoot the heck out of it.
