My C&R License and the "Evil Agenda"

So I sent out my application for my C&R (Curios and Relics FFL) about 10 weeks ago. I called the Atlanta office 3 weeks ago to inquire about the status of my license. The very courteous ATF woman advised me that it certainly would not be longer than 2 or 3 weeks more.

Well, this week rolls around and I still do not have my license. I called ATF again and spoke to the same woman. She exclaimed that they were very, very backed up with new license applications and that the FBI was taking a long time to get the background checks to her desk. She told me it would be another 3 weeks at least. Sigh.

My buddy seems to think that this is part of the overall evil agenda of our government. He says that because I am a member of all these political groups (NRA, GOA, SAF, FSSA, Lib Party of FL etc.) that "they" are holding up my license for being an extremist. Is there anybody paranoid here to believe that, or am I not paranoid enough??

Seems to me like these are just overworked civil servants. ATF law enforcement agents aside, this woman was very helpful and apologetic. Has anybody else applied for a C&R license lately?

They're not overworked civil servants (ha!), they're just freakin' lazy. The C&R check is, I believe, just a standard NICS check... damn, I think I just explained it to myself!

FWIW, I put in my C&R app two months ago and haven't heard back. Meanwhile, the Sistemas and M44s are receding into the horizon...

Zeebrahed - I applied for my C&R in early December of last year and didn't receive it until mid March. I belong to the NRA, btw.

One guy on the C&R mailing list that I subscribe to had applied in November and as of April STILL hadn't received his license. He contacted the ATF Ombudsman and received his license two weeks later. This was an extreme case.

Backed up with new license applications I can believe. I wonder why?!? ;)
