Well here it is! Just picked it up from the shop. Yeah I know, it looks just like all the other ones out there, but it's mine this time!:D

There is one peculiarity though. Check out the rear sight. I know I've seen that bird before somewhere. Why would they use that sight?? Not that it bothers me that much, just thought it was kind of strange.

Can't wait to try it out!

Oh, I guess I should have said that. It's a Magnum Research BFR(Biggest Finest Revolver). Chambered in 460 S&W.

Hey, look at it this way, at least you don't have to worry about that rear sight failing you! Sweet revolver, maybe someday I'll be able to get one.

Is that not a Ruger sight?
Yeah, that's why I'm a bit confused. The gun is new, so it came from the factory that way.

I'm guessing that MR doesn't make the rear sight, they buy it. And apparently they buy the same site that Ruger does from a 3rd party. But I'm also guessing the ones with the Ruger symbol aren't supposed to get shipped to MR.

That is a strange thing. I wonder if it is not intentional (for some reason). If it was instpected or test fired, I would think that would be something that would stick out and not make it past inspection

Why is that cylinder so long for a 460?

Makes me want to go to Skynyrd concert and yell "Freebore! Freebore!"

Actually, according to Magnum Research, it is "Big Frame Revolver"...
They changed it recently. They used to call it the "Biggest Finest Revolver".
It actually still says "Biggest Finest Revolver" on the owners manual that came with it.

Yes it is longer than needed. I'm guessing they use the same length cylinder for all the long cylinder models. I believe the 45/70 was the first one, so it's probably based on that.

Oh, I did sent MR an email asking them about the rear sight. I'm sure they'll probably try to feed me some crap. It doesn't bother me, I like Ruger. But it shouldn't have made it out of the factory like that.

Because MR uses the same frame for the .45/70, .444 marlin, and .30-30WCF. Also IIRC pine tree casting makes the frames for the BFR. Their a subsidy of Ruger.

But it shouldn't have made it out of the factory like that.

Oh, you are just nit pickin and looking for something wrong! Look at that gun! It's awesome! If that Ruger sight on it is the worst it came to you then Bravo MR.

Nothing wrong with Ruger products. They probably use the Ruger sight because it is a good sight. Now if it had said Taurus or Charco on it you would have a valid concern...:D

I wasn't nitpicking, it's a sweet gun. I just thought it was a bit strange. Now that I inspect it more, the rear of the gun is almost identical to a Super Blackhawk. In fact the hammer and the transfer bar are identical parts between my SBH and the BFR. I'd bet money that you could interchange them. Also, the pins are in the exact same place, and the reloading gate is also identical. So really what I have is a Super Super Blackhawk. :D I never compared the two that closely before. I didn't realize that the BFR was a clone of the SBH, just beefed up in certain areas.

Wow, that would make a lot of sense to use SBH parts in the rear as far as possible future gunsmithing or repairs are concerned. SOmeone's thinking on their feet over there! Enjoy!

Wondering if it was an error from the sight manufacturer that got incorrectly shipped and installed without being noticed????? Would this possibly make this weapon more valuable due to the fact that it was an error??? Kind of like a error on a dollar bill that gets into circulation increases it's value??

Super cool piece though. Always wanted one in 45.70..........fired one at the range once. Grin factor was high, but practicality has kept it out of my collection for now.

I look at that picture and find myself thinking, "You go ahead and shoot it...I'll stand WAY over here and watch." However, this is immediately followed by a mad urge to take that stainless beauty and Flitz the snot out of it! Very nice; congrats.;)
