It's true,,,
The danged thing is purple,,,
Well, maybe not purple exactly, but plum.

I have always kept the gun well oiled,,,
It doesn't seem to have any surface rust on it,,,
I can wipe it down and nothing seems to come off on the rag.

It might have started this years ago for all I know,,,
And I'm not really worried about the color,,,
I'm just wondering if this is normal.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Any possibility that at some time someone tried to reblue that revolver? A plum or purple color is often the result of a bad blue job or trying to blue some iron/steel alloys.

Hot bluing can change colors. IIRC some of the Winchester guns with nickel in the steel had to be blued at higher temperature otherwise it would be plum.

I don't think it's been re-blued,,,

I have owned the gun since the mid-60's,,,
It's just in the last year or so that I've noticed the shift in color,,,
I don't think I've done anything different to the gun in all those years.

It's no big deal,,,
I was just curious if this is normal with old guns,,,
This particular gun was made in 1902 so she's got some age on her.

It's almost time to take her out to the range,,,
And put the semi-annual six rounds through her.
