my 8 year olds

I have twin 8 year old boys and started them with their own .22 at Christmas. (a cheap Savage from Wally World) They love shooting and yesterday we tried 100 yards for the first time. They were hitting 2" steels at 100 yards! Granted they only hit one out of ten, but still! At 50 yards they just don't miss. On paper at 50 yards one of them consistently puts 10 inside a quarter.

Wow, that's great! Is that with a scope or irons. If it's irons, that's insanely cool. If it's with a scope, have them work on their breathing.

Good memories. Get pics and videos to remember. Mine have been shooting since 7-8. My 13 year old now shoots a .308 400 yards and does as good as me! :D

As a firearm instructor myself I think it is awesome that YOU take your sons shooting. The bonding that takes place is unsurpassed in life.never mind promoting the shooting sports. Your sons will always remember this. Enjoy. :)

I started them on iron sights at 25 and 50 yards, just put them on a scope two weeks ago (mainly for me, old man eyes) It took them one round at the range to get use to the scope, now we're working on breath control and squeezing. I really would like a better trigger, but that will be the next weapon. I was shocked at how difficult it was to find a bolt action with iron sights.

my 10 yr old DAUGHTER likes to shoot a .22 with iron sights.

Humorous story ---

Saturday - she comes to me with puppy dog eyes - you know - the kind you simply can't say "no" to ---- and asks me to take her to the range.

While most of her shooting was a Winchester model 67, she also helped me with my vintage Ruger single six (1958).

Turns out, it was a diversionary tactic ---- my 14 yr old son (the family chef) wanted to bake a father's day cake.

Don't worry - he shoots, too ---- he shoots a Remi 788 30/30 with iron sights ---- at 100 yds.

I'm lucky --- and proud ---

not many dads get daddy/daughter dates at the shooting range.

Really not looking forward to the day that some courtier tries to bust into our gig.

Glad to see that not only are you teaching safety, but you're also giving a great first impression to shooting. They will remember this for years, great job.
