My $325 Remington 870

it is a Marine Magnum 870, with the composite stocks... the gun cost me $200.00, with the short Stainless Barrel... I paid $100.00 for the blued 28" Express Mag barrel... with one (Mod) choketube included) and another $25.00 for the Extended Super Full turkey choke (Turkey season in a month)

so, how'd I do?

(Edited to add Bbl length)

Ya did good, Hemi. A coupla things....

A few more choke tubes won't hurt. I'd add a Cyl,Skeet or IC, and maybe two of those.

Also, for turkey, while the super tights are all the rage, oft the best patterns come with lesser constriction. Test some loads and see.

Now buy ammo, use up, repeat(G)....

Thanks, guys... and Dave...

Bought/reloaded and shot up over 200 rounds (including some skeet shooting) with it over the last 2 weekends...

I have been Turkey hunting with a full-choke 10Ga. double gun and 3.5: shells for the past few years... I'm used tothe long range, tight pattern shooting...

but in a moment of weakness, a buddy who HAD to have the double 10, offered me close to 3 times what I apid for it, and more than twice it's bluebook value... (Did I say he HAD to have it?)

so, this will be my new turkey gun (and also, with the short barrel, my new HD gun...)

it patterns 3" #6 Remington "Turkey" loads at about a 2' dia circle at 50 yards... which puts it right in there with my old 10 Ga. and I'm planning to go shoot it again this weekend...

Thanks for the advice...

Hemi.... before you buy new choke tubes, check out Briley's offerings.

I prefer Briley extended tubes for my Remingtons, bought them originally for my O/U and kept them when I sold the gun. Far superior to Remington tubes and actually cheaper if you buy 6 at a time.

That gun looks chromed or Nickel. These are superior finishes to Stainless if applied correctly. Stainless steels still rust if you don't take care of them. Remington never made Stainless 870's to my knowledge.

That looks like MY franken-gun!

I also have a base 870MM but I have a 26" blue bbl on it. I am thinking of getting the bbl hard chromed to match the receiver now that my other SG is back from the repair shop.

OK, Hemi, keep it up. Let us know how the turkey season goes, please.

Personally, I like the two tone look, kinda like the older pin guns.

Right now, Frankenstein has a matte blue Express bbl, bright blue action bars and mag cap, a "Parkerized" gray phosphate receiver and mag tube,
a corncob forearm and a high gloss M/C trap stock.

Obviously a parts gun, huh(G)?....

My first 870 was a "Frankengun"... almost as many parts in different colors than yours... BOY do I miss that gun... but my Dad owns it now, so I occasionally get to shoot it...

this is my first 870 in a while... and I'll be darned if there wasn't a HUGE hole in my collection until I got this one...

Ugly 870s can grow on ya. And, a good case can be made that any "Battery" is incomplete w/o an 870.

And glad your Frankengun is still in the family.

Where did you get that barrel? thats a pretty good price, i can't find a barrel around here for les than about $150-$160! thanks

Gun show deal...

they were asking $129 for it, but the ball and spring were missing (the ones that hold the big "nut" on the end of the mag tube...

I pointed this out to the guy, and he asked what it'd take to fix... I answered truthfully... maybe 5 bucks in parts... and another 10 in shipping and handling... then a Smith would get 10 bucks to install it...

he asked if 100 bucks was too much... I bought it...

Since it was going on a Marine Mag, with the extension tube and the clamp, I figured the ball/spring to be redundant... (the clamp will keep it all tight!)

that is how I got the $100 28" barrel!
