I believe Brownells carries tooling that lets you turn and thread a barrel without having a lathe, but it won't be cheap. Simply sticking a threading die in a handle is not adequate because it is hard to keep the die coaxial with the barrel bore and the thread true. Most die threading is done with some kind of lathe to line the thing up well (look at the pipe threading machines at the plumbing supply stores). They are faster than single point threading, but less precise.
If I were you, I would stop looking at the threading operation as a way to save money and just take the gun to a gunsmith with a lathe. He can cut it to a standard thread size that brakes are available in or make an adapter, and that will open up a wider selection for you.
