Muzzle lift tactics for a .22 pistol.

There was a couple of threads where it was debated whether there was enough muzzle lift in a .22 to "stitch" a target. At the range today I did a couple of experiments. with a 4" bull bbl Ruger 22/45. This gun is rather bbl heavy, but with a short bbl, so i thought it would work. In a modern two handed shooting stance, with a firm grip, there was no continued muzzle lift. Shooting stayed at point of aim.
With a one handed stance though, I could not get 4 shots on a 15 inch target at 7 yds. One handed i shot with only a moderate grip, as a woman or someone with less hand strength may do. I was surprised that the yeavy barrel still lifted so much. i Made it a special point not to jerk the gun or the trigger. anyways, just an off hand on the spot test. Tell me if there are some
variables that I missed. Was just shooting some CCI blazer.

Have a good evening.

Hmmmm. I shoot every Monday night on a pistol team. .22LR, all one-handed, 50 feet, both slow and rapid fire (five shots in ten seconds.) I'm not the greatest shot in the world, but I can keep all the shots within a 4" circle without too much trouble.

Are you absolutley sure that you aren't jerking the trigger? When in your offhand stance, are you at a 45 degree angle to the target, or are you more in-line?

Hope this helps.

Chris

The gun I was referring to was a Jennings J22. Can do the same thing with a TPH or Pheonix or any other "mini" .22 semi auto. SHORT range (15 ft-), as fast as the seer will allow...you don't really have time for recovery, so the bullets just climb. All 10 go in a nice straight line, (pulling) slightly to the rignt (hi heart) at roughly 1" intervals.

Not my first choice, but worm tracks make a bloody mess.
