Muzzle Brake or Flash Hider For Remington 700

Hello Fellows
I just purchased a Remington 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD Bolt Action Rifle .308 Win 20" Threaded Barrel 5/8x24RH and I wanted a recommendation for a good Muzzle Brake or Flash Hider. I have heard that muzzle brakes are not necessary for a .308 caliber because the recoil is not terrible. Also muzzle brakes can be damaging to the ears especially if others are shooting next you. What are your thoughts on these statement? My price range is between $100-$120. I am kind of leaning towards a flash hider but don't know of a quality one within my price range. Any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It kind of depends on what you want it to do. Are you going to be in tactical situations where a flash hider is the difference between giving away your position or not. Are you going to be shooting in low light, with possible follow up shots? Or do you want to soak up some recoil with a brake? Or is it just a tacticool accessory? ( which I'm fine with)

Brakes do make them louder, and sometimes annoyingly louder... Personally I wouldn't spend my money on a brake for a .308, but that's just me, nothing wrong with choosing to do so.

I'm running a JP Tactical Comp on my 18" barreled .308. It significantly reduces muzzle jump...

I have a muzzle brake on my Rem LTR 308, makes it a pleasure to shoot. I only target shoot. Accuracy is what I'm going for, so if thats reason, go fo it. Have a gunsmith install it, get the best one you can efford. Hope I helped, Chris

Flash hider is useless on a recreational firearm...only purpose is to conceal muzzle flash from two-legged adversaries.

Brakes are fine for your ears, but those on the bench next to ya might not appreciate it. Not just the noise, but blowing their hair back...:D

I try to be accommodating, and apologetic. But hey, it's a public range and it's not like my 7-08 is a .50 BMG.

While brakes are a real help on heavy-recoiling magnums, having one on my 7-08 allows me to spot my hits at 1000 yards because the rifle settles back quickly before that second-and-a-half lapses until the bullet hits the target. Plus, it does reduce recoil to near .223, making 100+ rounds a non-issue.

FWIW, flash hiders were developed to reduce the effect of the flash on the shooter's eyes in low light situations, that is, night military engagements. Ain't no way you're gonna hide the flash from the front end, they're gonna see ya. GW

Thanks for all the inputs, I went ahead and ordered the PWS Precision Rifle Comp .30-.338 Mag for $94.95 + 6 S$H. I will keep you all updated after testing.

Thanks again
