Muzzle Brake modification question...

I have an Armory USA AK-47 that does NOT take the usual 14mm left hand thread muzzle brake. Instead, it takes a 1/2"x28 thread like the AR-15. Problem is, a 7.62x39 round is larger than .223 so I need to drill the center of the brake for the larger round. I drilled it today to 23/64th's (or just a hair under 3/8th's) but am not sure if that's large enough for a 7.62 round. That hole is slightly smaller than the brake I took off. Incidently, took off a cheap slant-cut brake and installed an AR A2 flash hider.

Got some down-loads to tryit with?

I'd fire one or two and look for copper on the back side of the break. Make sure no-one else is on the firing line and wear good safety glasses, long sleave shirt and leather gloves.....

It depends on the concentriciy of the holes and the bullet flight path (which may not be too straight until several yards downrange).

After some brake research, it looks like alot of manufacturers build brakes with openings around .300 over buller diameter so I redrilled my brake to .500 and can bump to .625 if I need to.
