Interesting insight, as if we needed one, as to the government's attitude toward the Constitution.
". . . although Babbitt's staff did tell two men holding huge flags that they had to move into the 'first amendment area', a place roped off for protesters."
How long will it be before we are all herded into "roped off areas"?

Encroachment of First Amendment Rights?
In the Great Falls Tribune, May 3, 2000, page 3A, there is an interesting paragraph describing an aspect of Babbitt's visit to Montana, discussing the designation for a section of the Missouri River Breaks. The paragraph reads as follows:
"Great Falls Police and U.S. Park Police were on hand for security, and bags were examined at the door of the theater. No clashes occurred outside the building, although Babbitt's staff did tell two men holding huge flags that they had to move into the 'first amendment area', a place roped off for protesters."
It is strange when citizens must now go to roped off areas to practice their first amendment rights. If we allow the government to designate, now or at any other time, certain areas roped off to practice first amendment rights we are more bereft of rights than I ever realized. When did the government ever have the right to rope off areas for first amendment speech because of the size of an American flag? When does a government's bogus concern for security preempt first amendment rights? Will the government now carry yellow rope to every discussion, conference or outing to define "first amendment areas"?
When will outrage stop this kind of tomfoolery by throttlebottems?

I tried going to the Tribune's website for the original article, but their website is still under construction.
