MSN/NY Daily News Gun Ignorance Strikes Again

There’s a story on MSN about a guy in Long Island, New York impersonating a sky marshal. At his home the police found a ‘massive arsenal’ of seven guns.

The worst (or best) part of the story was this line:

They (the police) then searched his (Vicars) home, finding a loaded assault rifle, a ballistic body armor vest, a tactical vest and three high-capacity magazines carrying 8,300 rounds.

Right way, the very first comment on the story was someone bringing up the idea of a 2,700 plus round magazine. Yep, there’s high capacity magazines and then there’s REALLY high capacity magazines.

That part of the story was so ludicrous they changed it sometime overnight so now it reads that he had three high capacity magazines AND 8,300 rounds of ammunition.

Between the writer and the editor somebody should have caught that error. The fact that they didn’t is one more bit of evidence that they don’t know what they are talking about.

The story is here:

"Massive arsenal" is much more sensational than "a few guns". Sensationalism is what journalism is about nowadays, not facts.

Impersonating a federal Sky Marshall is about the stupidest thing you can do.

Having known a genuine SM, they don't go around telling people who they are.

I chuckle when I read/hear about those "massive arsenal", and "massive store of ammunition" stories. I wonder what they would call my basement???

Yes, but it concerns me that many average Americans may agree. From a purely logical standpoint, for those of us who shoot a lot, it makes perfect sense to buy/reload in large quantities. I don’t even considering going to the range unless I’m going to shoot 100 – 200 rounds. So, buying ammo in 1000 round lots is no big deal.

However, the average person might not really understand the issue and support government imposed limits on ammo purchases. My Father would have called a story like this “priming the pump” not really design to accomplish anything right now, but hopefully slowly convincing the average American of the paper’s position. Then when Mr. Obama or Ms. Clinton proposes that purchases be limited to some predetermined quantity each month and tracked in a database everyone thinks, "that sounds reasonable”.

The left thinks a 20-round box of ammo for deer season is all you need to be allowed to keep at home. Seriously, that's what they think. Those bulk purchases for target shooting? Too bad, so sad. You can buy your ammo at the range, no need to stockpile dangerous quantities of munitions at home.

Wait until they figure out reloading.
