When it comes to MP5 select fire conversion devices, most people know about the registered sears. This is one of the lesser known, but very desirable, conversion devices: the DLO box.
‘DLO’ are the initials for the smith who made and registered these, Doug L Offinger. I spoke to Mr Offinger, and he said that he made these by taking the trigger boxes out of German guns, cutting the ledge into them, and then registering them. These boxes are genuine HK German boxes.
The MP5s that use registered sears do not use factory parts in the trigger pack; rather, they’re using proprietary parts because the sears themselves are not factory. Even the trigger box that houses the registered sear is a proprietary box.
With a DLO box, everything is factory. Also, in a DLO box, since the sear is not registered, you can legally use a unregistered new style factory roller sear.
Just to clarify a few terms, the item in this pic is known as a ‘trigger box‘. Once it is filled in with parts, the entire thing is called a ‘trigger pack’ (yes there are registered trigger packs, such as the LaFrance packs, where allegedly you can’t remove the internals, but that’s another discussion)...

In this pic of the trigger pack, you can see the roller sear. Since the trigger box is registered, you don’t need a registered sear...
All this isn’t to say that the DLO box is better than the registered sear. There is zero difference in feel and performance between the DLO box and the registered sear. Over the extreme long run - like a million rounds - the DLO box will have the advantage because the trigger box is not a wearable part. The bigger cache with the DLO box is that it uses factory parts and that it’s a true full auto box.
