Mp40 New?

is it possible to purchase an MP40 9mm semi automatic?
I know that thompson is made new through Auto Ordinance
I live in CA and would like to buy one.

Would this be considered a pistol or a carbine?

Wouldn't that be considered an "assault weapon" according to CA laws? Detachable magazine that doesn't attach inside the pistol grip? Or, if it's a carbine, a pistol grip and a detachable magzine?

sorry joe, I dont think youll find one, nobody is making them.you can get any nuimber of replicas that are non firing or fire blanks for reenactments, these are pricy for something to look at and not shoot.

the cali doj has pretty much made owning anything thats fun,out of the question these days.

I know in california you can buy a thompson 45 cal semi auto only
does anyone know of anyone making a mp40 model?

The Thompson has a pistol grip and a detachable magazine, so it is considered an assault weapon and it cannot be bought by civilians in California. The same is true for the MP-40. There is a German company that is making Semi-auto MP-40s and Stg-44s that people over at ar15.com were trying to get imported, but I believe they were unsuccessful.

Where allowed

To comply with US law (where allowed at all), the stock would have to be fixed in the fully extended position, and it would have to have a 16 in barrel.

This was what had to be done to the semi auto Grease gun, and it was made in the USA. I understand that it is no longer made, at $850+ and with the long barrel, I heard it didn't sell well.

It might be possible to make a semi auto MP40 as a SBR (in order to look right), but of course, the public's access would be limited.

Yeah, so the reproduction semi-auto MP-40's would be SBRs, but what about that nifty MP-44 Sturmgewehr that same company makes?

That barrel looks 16" to me...

I want one!

Semi-Auto MP40s are available

Guys,

Seen the tread and thought I would let you know; I produce legal semi auto MP40's!

I just received the ATF approval letter and we are now going into production. Further, they are offered in 3 versions; Pistol, Rifle, and SBR. You can check them out on my site www.ssroom.com.

All the best

Chuck
