MP-5 stolen from SWAT officer in Denver area

Apparently, this hasn't gotten much press but tonight on the news they had an article on it.

It seems that the SWAT guys were yocking it up at a local bar/restaurant when someone broke into one of their personal cars and stole the grab-n-go kit; and one very nice 9mm MP-5 subgun. They also got his tactical vest.

I have searched on the local papers but haven't found anything on this story to link to. They said in the article that the officer hasn't been brought to task over this but they are reviewing the manner in which these firearms are carried.

They also said that if the BGs had broken into more cars, they could have gotten still more firearms as this officer wasn't the only one carrying an MP-5 in his car.

A submachine gun belonging to a Jefferson County SWAT officer was stolen out of the cab of his personal truck last week while he was at a sports bar, and Lakewood police are still trying to locate the weapon.

The officer was at the bar on Feb. 21 with other members of SWAT when the HK MP5 was stolen, said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.

The sports bar, Jackson s Hole, is across the street from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado State Patrol at 675 Kipling.

The officer parked his Ford pickup in the parking lot about 6 p.m., police said. When he walked outside at 8:20 p.m., he noticed his truck had been broken into, Davis said.

Various pieces of SWAT equipment were taken along with the gun, which was locked in a case inside the cab of the pickup, Davis said.

Lakewood police declined to specify what other gear was stolen, citing the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are questioning a group of people who were at the bar for information, but Davis said they are not considered suspects.

The weapon, manufactured by Heckler & Koch, is sold only for police and military use. Some models can fire up to 800 rounds per minute.
