Inthe movies Hard Target, with Van Damme the bad guy,Lance Hendriksen i think is running around with either a sawded off shotgun,or a Thompson Contender. Now i know this is not the best gun movie but there was nothing else on yesterday and there it was on USA network so i watched it. Anyway at the end the BG has the heroes girl and makes her reload his gun. The shell was big, .45 Colt maybe? Also the gun was compensated. It was a break open design. I love seeing guns in movies and the racking my brains to find out what they are! Thanks guys for any help on this one,45automan

Indeed it was a Thompson Contender- the bullet was big, but saw the movie awhile ago- so can't help there.

I don't know what kind of cartridge it was, but judging by all the explosions every time a shot was fired, they must all have been using some kind of exploding bullets! :D

I'm sorry I can't remember the name of this movie, but it has Dean Cain & Robert Forest in it as ATF agents. It's running on either HBO or Showtime this month. In this movie, Dean & Robert are being chased by the evil militia & Robert is firing a 1911 from the passenger window back at the bad guys. Now I lost count of the number of rounds that Robert fired, of course without reloading at any time, but he got off somewhere around 80 to 100 rounds. All that from a standard 1911!!?!! I definitely have to get one of those pistols!!

Gipperdog, I believe the name of the movie is "Militia"- only watched 15 minutes of it, lost interest quickly

Yup - .45-70 Contender. Perfect choice for a psyco paramilitia terrist dungeonmaster villian... What Else is there?

I liked the air powered arrow launcher used near the begining of the movie. I seem to remember those being sold for around 450 tp 600 dollars with velocities near 600 FPS! With an arrow that means ungodly penitration!

George, actually that Arrow launcher was sold by US Cavalry for some time....it was powered by a Constant Air canister (like a paint ball gun I guess)- and was extremely pricey...like $1600.

Interesting weapon.

That looked like a .45-70 Contender to me as well. It was my only guess since the cartridge looked much longer, I thought it had to be a rifle round of some sort. The arrow launcher was cool. I've seen them listed in some of those Gun Digest-type books that listed everything from blackpowder guns to airguns.

I want to say that it was made by Airrow Industries or something like that and the list price was expensive. Interesting alternative to a crossbow which at most will get around 300 fps.

I don't want the TC used in HARD TARGET but I do want a case or 3 of the .45-70 ammo used. If it would lifte 55 gallon barrels when fired out of a Contender, what would it do from a rifle?

JimV, its not actually 45-70, its the 45 LST long. LST stands for Last Man Standing. To know the history of this round it was developed by Bruce Willis in the 1920's, it feeds find through a 1911, and features a 230 gr. FMJ at 10,000 fps. This round produces virtually no recoil, yet will pick a man up and fling him up to twenty yards. 36 fit in a single stack flush fit magazine.

The long version was developed for Lance Henrickson for Hard Target and featured a 450 gr. exploding softpoint at 12,000 fps. The original exploding softpoints where developed in Hong Kong for short range varmit hunting.

The other popular modern movie round was developed by Mel Gibson in the mid 80s. The 9mm LW. This round was less powerful featuring a 115 gr. bullet at 14,000 fps. A double stack Beretta holds 200 rounds. This bullet can easily bring down moving helicopters. Special armor piercing rounds have been developed which can be fired through the 2 inch front plate steel of a bulldozer and still easily penetrate a badguy.

Just thought I would share. :D

Ahhh, Now I see. Movie guns with movie ballistics and movie rules. How about that! Only in America!

You forgot the Quigley down under magic rifle bullets. :)

Forget hi-cap mags, I want some of those Hollywood capacity mags! :D

I want the "Hollywood" capacity magazines and a lifetime supply of those magic disappearing never hits an innocent bystander or anything else except the badguy when fired by the goodguy bullets. Now that would ensure that I would never lose in (not so)civil court if I ever had to shoot a badguy.

BTW, didn't Lance Henricksen use that same T/C Contender in Stone Cold with Brian Bosworth?
