mounting tang sight?

Dear Shooters:
I've got a beautiful Browning 1885 Hi wall 45-70 (it's a new copy by Browning, not original).
I'd like to mount a tang sight on this, but there is NO tang on it, the stock goes right up to butt up on the reciever.
It would need to be mounted on the wood or on an insert into the wood.
This idea doesn't appeal to me - if any of you have done this - tell all!

It's drilled and tapped for a scope on reciever and bbl (factory job) and I might be as well, or better, to put a scope on it???

You've got a very fine gun !!! They are beautifully made [by Miroku] .Mine was too heavy and long for my hunting needs. I cut the barrel to 22" [not much velocity loss for that cartridge] ,repolished to 400 grit and reblued, cut the gloss on the stock [I don't like shiney !]. I also put some simple engraving on the receiver ,an eagle and a bison, since those flat surfaces just cry out for engraving. For my use in NY state it's nice to have a scope to find openings in the brush so I added a 1x4 Leupold .Total weight with scope and strap -8 1/2 lbs ,length 37". Easy to get 1" groups with any factory loads. Found some 300s were too fragile for close range so I'm using Winchester Partitions. After eight years of use I find it perfect for my needs and I'm happy I made the changes. And when they see that 45-70 hole they say 'what did you use , a cannon ?' . :D

tang on browning

I think I'll scope it. Thanks for the comeback; I don't think there would be any satisfactory way of stock mounting that tang sight; scope is the way.
thanks Harry B.
