Mounting scopes on pistols not designed to mount them

I have been contemplating making a trigger guard mounted scope rail for some of my side ejecting semis and another for revolver. Has anyone done such a project or is there something already on the market?

What kind of pistol? There's a lot of aftermarket stuff out there for optical sites and semis for guns used in any competitions.

I've seen scope mounts that are made to 'fit' on pistol rails. Google: pistol handgun scope mount weaver style rail base and see if that gives you something on the order you're looking for. Combat Optical has them on their site.
