Once again, I need some advice.
I am in a position where I must make some modifications to my M1A. It is an older National Match model.
I have to mount a bipod, and I have decided to mount a Harris bipod to the rifle. As you probably know, a sling swivel stud must be present for this. Here is my problem:
The front of the stock only has the military swivel for a leather or web sling, and I have to install a stud. Where would the best place be for mounting a stud?
a. I was considering drilling right through the metal part of the sling swivel. This would leave the stock itself untouched. What about that?
b. If this is not an option, should I use any reinforcement for the stock, so that the bipod mount will not pull through the wood?
c. Is there a bipod that I can mount in some other way? Note: barrel attachment is out--I do not want to affect the harmonics of the barrel. This rifle will be used as a LE duty rifle for precision shooting.
Any and all comments and suggestions are welcome.
