Mountain Gun ???

I went to a gun show today and found my next pea shooter. A vendor has 3 mountain guns. A .44, .41, and a .45ACP. They are all sold as used but are as new with all boxes and papers. I've already got a .44. None have the lock. So, my question is which one, the .45 or .41? I'll be going by tommorrow and try to finalize a deal. It's not a need, just a want. Is one more valuable than the other? More rare? His asking price is high so I'll go by late and see what happens. Thanks.

Both are rather hard to find now so if you take your time you may miss out on your chance of getting either one. That's probably why he has them priced so high.

I don't think that $579 is too high at all. It is right at the going price around here, I just bought my .45 Colt Mnt Gun for $550 off the forum and found several others for between $540 and $675 all used but mostly in great shape, so I say GO FOR IT!!!

As to which one to buy, I would go with the .41 cuz they seem so hard to find. I advertised that I wanted a .45 Colt Mnt Gun and had 5 offers emailed to me within 24 hours. The .41 Maggie is much MUCH harder to find.

The .41 Magnum is definitely the least common of the three and the one that I would like to have bought in all of the chamberings ever offered, including a .357 magnum 7 shooter. If you are a handloader, the .41 Magnum is a great choice. You can load down and have performance like the 10mm or .40 S&W and you can also trim some brass down to special length and use powders that are more efficient balisticly and comfortable in the Mountain Gun, i.e. HS-6, VV 3N37 and AA#7. You will have to develop your own loads unless you can find some data for the .41 Special that doesn't officially exist, unless you do handload! ;)
