Motorcycle Concealed Carry

I'm taking a road trip next year on the motorcycle & need to figure out the best way to carry a pistol on the motorcycle (Kawasaki Vulcan 1600).

Shoulder holster under the leather jacket seems like it would be a pain in the azz & a belt holster would be open & not concealed.

Leather motorcycle jacket has inside pockets, but the pistols I want to take go swimming & I could never draw from them in a hurry.

Tank bag??? If so what brand of tank bag would work with a cruiser since my gages are on 1/2 of the tank.

Ideas?????????

tank bag

my father carried a .22 in his tank bag. he used one of those inside the pants type holsters with a clip on it. Worked for him. i dont think it would be real quick, but on a motorcycle nothing is gonna be all that fast to draw.

long long ago and far far away..........

I found the only thing that worked for me (4" stainless Security Six) was a Jackass Leather Company (now known as "Galco") shoulder holster, the held-horizontal one.

Except I poked a hole through my jacket under the sleeve.......

Personally, I have carried my Glock 29 in a Milt Sparks EX IWB holster on my right hip for the past 7 years. I wear leather jeans and a XXL sweat shirt (t-shirt in summer) to cover the G29 if my jacket is off (PD leather in winter, mesh tex in summer). Before any one (as usually happens) speculates such carry would cause injury if in accident - 3 years ago I was hit hard broadside from left side and thrown down hard enough on the pavement on my right side to trash my Nolan 100 helmet and give me a mild concussion. There wasn't any evidence of bruising from my G29 position on my right hip.

I'm a retired surgeon and realize one case doesn't make much of a series study but, it beats speculation about possibilities any day.

Works for me. YMMV

:)

I have the first generation of the Thigh Pack from www.sabergear.com. It is just longer than the new one. This pack hangs from the side when standing and lies on top of your left thigh when riding.
It works well for me.

:) ride a hayabusa
summer its a glock 26 in the front pocket
winter my glock 17 fits in my leather sport jacket and you cant tell its there!

I'm an old fart and into the vintage bikes. Honda 1973 750 Four.

My wife and I take lots of trips and She carries a S&W mod 19 2" in her coat. I carry a Walther P99QA in 40 S&W and I use a G-Code pancake in the small of my back. Very easy to get to and my wife as the rider has axcess to it much eaiser than I.

I carry a .38 with a high ride holster on my BMW, but my leather jacket or my summer joe rocket covers it to keep it concealed. How you gonna fish a gun out of a tank bag??

Dontshoot - No, it's a 1977 R100S - possibly the best bike BMW ever made. First 1000 cc bike they made and the last one without emission controls.
I'm a retired general & thoracic surgeon and I bought it in 1980 from a neurosurgeon who decided he liked bicycles better.

I get a ride in every week - must be at least 100 miles to qualify. This is my 16th bike and 3rd Beemer - love it!!

:) :) :D

Bianchi makes a fanny pack they call the 'top secret'. Large size comfotably accomodates a full size 1911. 5" N-frame is a little tight. The only down-side I've found is that a 1911 saftey can sometimes 'wipe-off' due to shifting, so I carry an EAA Witness on my CBX. The quick release buckle and pull-tabs to access the main compartment are good sized and easy to work while wearing heavy riding gloves. Loops on the pull tabs are the perfect size to hold most compact tactical lights. Afairly dense layer of padding at the back might, maybe, reduce blunt-trauma if the road rises up to smite you instead of greet you.

According to Ohio law, the weapon must be on your person and in plain view while in/on a motor vehicle. This could present a potential problem while riding a motorcycle. I spoke with our local LEO here in Akron and they advise AGAINST carrying with the weapon in plain view as it would surly attract unwanted attention and LEO would get “man with a gun” calls. He suggested a shoulder holster and keep the gun concealed, (I am in know way advocating this practice). He also said as long as you tell the LEO (if pulled over) that you are a CCW permit holder and have your weapon on you there wouldn’t be a problem. I carry using a shoulder rig under my leather vest when traveling on my VTX 1800. I have been stopped only once while carrying (doing 65 in a 35), and told the LEO I was CCW permit holder and have my weapon on me. He ran my tags and we had a long conversation about concealed carry laws in Ohio and he left telling me to slow down a bit.
I would not recommend a pack or tank bag, as when and if you need your weapon, you will not have time to get to it quickly. JMHO

I carry my Glock 27 on my right hip in a Bianchi thumb break holster in summer and winter. In winter my jacket covers it up. In summer, I untuck enough of my shirt to pull it over the pistol and tuck it under the holster. No one has ever noticed, not even my riding buddies unless I show them.

i carry the same thing on the bike (Kawi EX500R, (gimme a break its my first bike!)) that i always carry. a USP compact in a Blade-Tech IWB. i use the draw string on the jacket to keep it from flying up and exposing the gun. never had a problem and i hardly notice its there.

Sounds like a good first bike to me. My first was an ancient HD in 1940 - 2 roommates for partners. It was over the hill - we could never ride it alone because it took 2 to start; the kick start being broken.

As I said, the Beemer 1977 R100S is my 16th and I could given more info on it. Modifications include:

Lester cast wheels
Luftmeister fairing
Dual plug ignition (lowers octane need in engine designed for Hi Octane leaded gas) Allows leaner mix with smaller carb jets - 54 MPG + or - 2.
Dyna III Electronic ignition
Corbin Leather Dual Seat
Koni shocks rear
Progressive fork springs and anti bottoming springs front
Braided stainless steel brake lines
Ferodo brake pads
Cyberlight flashing brake light
San Jose fork brace
Krauser detachable bags
Plug in for electrically heated gloves

Gas tank holds 6.5 gallons standard.:)

Gotta love those Beemers;) Even if you feel motivated to install a few mods.

:D :D
