Motor Oil on Glock

A friend of mine uses 10W30 motor oil to lube his glock. Anybody out there use motor oil, and if so, how does it work?

There are some that use Mobil 1 on their Glocks. I use Outers gun slick.
Go to glock talk and use the search, there are a couple of threads on it.

Only use SYNTHETIC motor oils such as Mobil 1 TriSynthetic on firearms.

Dont use regular crude oil... geez.

I use Mobil 1, 15w50, exclusively, One drop on the slide rails will still be there after a day at the range. Mobil 1 is so slick that a smidgen (and I do mean a smidgen) on the engagement area of any gun will smooth up the trigger pull.

One caveat: Mobil 1 will break down at around 600 degrees F. If you're going to be heating your Glock up to ove 600 degrees, you'll have to let it cool back down before you fire it.

Also, be aware that organic motor oils are carcinogens.

I would think that in rapid fire mode a pistol's barrel and slide could easily reach 600 F. At least it felt that way when I grabbed the muzzle of a Glock 19 after firing 5 ten rounds mags as fast as I could pull the trigger. ;)

So many pistols, so little money.

red gun grease or high temp lithium grease in a syringe used lightly, will do a better job and will not drip out of the end of the slide. Cylinder and Slide has a great paper on gun lube that they send with each custom gun or gun repair.

I use Stihl lithium chainsaw grease. Think about the abuse a chainsaw goes through. Cheap and works like a champ. A Gunney told me about it many years ago, and we all know they know the good cheap stuff. A little goes a long way. Have been told Slick 50 works well also. I think I'll try that out on my Mak.

I use Castrol Syntech in my Glocks, and it is the best for lubing guns I have found. If you use it sparingly and clean off the areas it pools, you will find that it works perfectly, and your guns shoot amazingly clean. As an example, I shot Front Sights 4 day handgun course, and at the end of each day swabbed the barrel clean, and just did a quci wipe down of the internals, and my pistol was the only one not to have a problem. PS a quart is about a century long supply.

You mean I'm breaking the rules by using CLP and Hoppe's #9 for bore care? I change the oil in my car about every 3000 miles. How would I know when my Glock has gone 3000 miles? I could change it every time I do the car, but the car goes more places than the Glock. (Sometimes I take a SIG) Does this mean I have to install an odometer on my Glock now? Dang, now I have to buy two cases at a time! I guess I'll just stay with my CLP for the time being.

Hey Tecolote, you better check with glock, cause I think you are in danger of melting the polymer frame at 600 degrees.

How hot does the cylinder wall of a 4 cylinder Honda engine get at 70 mph?

I'm gonna get me some mobil 1.

PS I have a stihl chain saw and I dont use any kind of grease on it. You must be refering to Bar and chain lube. Nowadays its all synthetic for environmental reasons.
This lube is designed to FLOW and keep the bar and chain cool, and remove debris. I'm not sure how it would do as a gun lubricant or exactly what is in it. It is very messy on the chainsaw.

If the oiler on a chainsaw is working you should be able to see the lube spray onto the tree stump from the end of the bar when you run the saw.

Try synthetic automatic transmission fluid. It's made to take almost anything. AMSOIL makes an excellent universal ATF.

MasterBlaster, it is Stihl sprocket bearing grease, lithium based, for sprocket nose bearings, drive sprocket bearings, rewind starter bearings, throttle linkages, and all slide rails.(added that last one. not really on the tube-8 years old and stihl going strong, pun intended :))
