Nationally, Police Officers Deemed Fifth Most Ethical Professionals
A Gallup poll of over 1,000 randomly selected U.S. adults showed police officers cited as the fifth most ethical professionals among a 21 profession grouping. Specifically, 61 percent of the public believes police are very ethical, 31 percent find them to be average, and merely eight percent see them as very unethical.
Perhaps most promising for law enforcement morale is the improvement in public perception toward officers the past few years. The 61 percent high rating is consistent with polls taken only in the past few years. By contrast, police averaged merely 46 percent in the years between 1981-1999.
As is the case with most years, nurses received the largest high rating at 82 percent. Telemarketers received the lowest at 7 percent.
The poll was conducted between November 17-20 and has a 3 percent margin of error.
