I want to take my rancher brother-in-law to a Cowboy Action match so he can see it. (He shoots some; I'm trying to bring him more into competitive shooting.) I think he will have a much better time if there's lots of costumes, props, etc. There seem to be several SASS clubs nearby, such as two near Tulsa, Stillwater, OKC, and some in northern Arkansas. I live in NE Oklahoma. Of the nearby clubs, has anyone been to one of their matches?
 
I have shot at three monthly matches now. They've all been with the Territorial Marshalls and the matches take place at one of the Oklahoma City Gun Club facilities north of Arcadia on Hiawassi. I first attended as a spectator at the Landrun in the spring and knew immediately that this was something I wanted to do.

The facilities are great and the people are even better. Their monthly matches fall on the 4th Sunday of each month. You'll need to get there about 8:30 or so to get registered and maybe lend a hand setting up the stages. And don't worry too much if you don't have all the required firearms (two SA pistols and one rifle - all the same caliber, one shotgun - period correct or replicas thereof). Someone will be happy to help out by loaning guns if needs be.
