Most common ammo?

What is the most common rifle round in the USA? This is a random question asked at my lunch table today, and I dont have an answer. I was thinking either .223/5.56, 7.62x39 30-06, 30-30 or maybe .308, any opinions?

Guns and Ammo had one of those Q&A page that asked that question. Their answer was .223/5.56. It was last year, but I can't remember which month.

SVO's right, .22lr is the most sold round...all those Marlin 60's/795's & Ruger 1022's & Remmy 597's gotta eat ;)

I'd be surprised if 5.56 had eclipsed both the .30-06 or .30-30 in total sales...I'd wanna see numbers...
for over 100 years the .30-30 was huge...almost as long for the .30-06...

Okay, I just reread the post. I think the article I read was for centerfire rifles sold, not ammo. Let me check my sources (by that I mean magazine stack).:)

I can't find it right now.

I would go with 22lr if we are talking about availability or numbers sold.
