mossy 500-- new barrel or new gun for home defense

I have a mossberg 500 20 guage with the field barrel. I think a shotgun is the best weapon for home defense but its hard manuvering through the house with the long field barrel. Also I'm not sure if the 20 guage is enough weapon. So should I buy a 18.5 inch 20 gauge barrel for my current gun or should I go out and buy a 12 gauge tactical model with 18.5 inch barrel?

What if you throw on a Knoxx Tactical stock? It's recoil reducing, and similar in design to the style of the M4 butt stock.

if they have a short barrel for the 20 buy it, it's like having two guns. i have the 12 ga mossey with both barrels. the short one stays on till bird season, and then i'm really glad i have the longer barrel.

So the 20 is "enough" gun for home defense? Not worth going up to the 20? Any load recommendations?

i sold the 28" barrel that came with my 500 and used that money to buy the 18" one, just an idea. and a 20 guage should be plenty enough to defend the homefront

20 gauge will do the job.

A new barrel will almost be as much as a new 500 or 88.
