mossy 500, mav 88 mag question...

why does the 20" barrel with the mag extending all the way to the end of the barrel on the moss 500 and maverick 88 only hold 7+1 when the 20" barrel on the mossy 590 is the same length but it holds 8+1, whats the difference? thanks.

Different magazine design.
The 500 and mav 88 magazines have to end shorter than the 590's magazine, because the barrels attach at the end of them. The 590's barrel does not, it attaches similar to the 870's magazine, so it has a bit more room.

yes. you can remove the mag tube on the 500 receiver and replace it with the 590 mag tube and barrel. Don't forget to pick up a magazine cap to hold it all together. Be careful when removing the mag tube so you don't bend or crush it. Heat the junction at the receiver with a hair dryer and use penetrating oil if it won't turn.

well i got 8 rounds to go into my mav88..went to the store and looked at different shell brands and bought the shortest ones, exactly 2 1/4" long. that 64th of an inch made the difference. now i have 8+1. nice. thanks guys.
