Mossin Nagant Carbine as a survival rifle?

ok...got one. It's been 'Sporterizes'...meaning the bayo lug was removed proffesionally and the forearm stock was shortened so it looks more like your average bolt action hunting rifle.

Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet...being that I top in at 135 to 140 and am 5'5" the metal buttstock plate gives me the heebie-jeebies. ;)

Now-some freinds on another board that I post on where I asked about spending close to $800 for a Bushmaster Dissapator say I should just stick with the Nagant.

Seeing that I have some major problems as far as physical goes [check my petition for more info and sign the darn thing!] I'm still trying to digure the best route to go-spend the $800 for the Bushmaster and keep the Nagant as a long range shooter or have some mods done to the Nagant and go with it?

What mods to consider for the Nagant?

Also-the bolt wiggles a little...not much and it doesn't come unlocked...but not having shot it yet.........

Is the 'wiggle' normal or should I have the weapon checked out?

What about mods to it?

Congratulations on your new Nagant. I have several that I have scoped and the accuracy is very good and it comes close to a 30.06 in the power department. As far as mods go, It will always be a 5 shot bolt action with not much room for improvement. The actions are a little sloppy but are actually very rugged. If you have concerns, have the headspace checked. As far as an "EBR", take a look at the Romanian SKS's. They can still be had for less than $200.00 and are one of the best deals going these days.
