I was curious to just how good the 500 and 835 is. I know about the 870, nova, 1300, and bps. My question is, is the 500 and 835 a "trashy" gun are is it worth the money reliability wise? Thanks for your help.:)

Mossy's:

Frame is made of aluminum, and the slide tends to rattle.

They are reliable shotguns, and can fire almost limitless rounds just like all the others. Plus their cost is lower allowing a quality shotgun for those on a smaller budget.

I like Mossy's. Always have and always will.

It's hard to say whether the 500 is the best of the cheap guns or the cheapest top quality guns, so....

Mossies rattle, the safety's in the wrong place if you want to add a Choate style stock with PG, and they're not the best choice if you shoot a case of shells a week.

I doubt they'll last as long as an 870, but IMO they'll last long enough. Like 2-3 generations...

Uh, check out the Mosseberg vs. Remington thread that Shin Tao just effectively locked due to overstress. I added to that thread. There's nothing wrong with a Mossberg shotgun. If you're looking for home defense, the safety is in the entirely CORRECT place, as is the slide release.

Even though I prefer the 870, I still think the Mossberg is a good gun. I doubt you would EVER be able to wear it out, no matter how much you shot.
